Says this article. (http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/dark-side-of-the-screen/2006/05/12/1146940739294.html?page=fullpage)

The article is full of words, so if your brain is already rotten you might want to look at some E3 boothbabes (http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/2006/05/to-answer-everyones-question.html) instead.

Well you know, If a person's brain is rotting, and coincidentally they play video games, its obviously the video game doing it.

So we're going to wind up with a lot of fat zombies from hell when all the video gamers rot their brains?

I play video games all the time and I am an honors student as well. I am just sick of these people who keep saying that video games are the cause of problems.

Then think of what you could have achieved if you never played video games?

Thank you jebus, video games rotting your brain. Maybe after a few years I can hit that blissful ignorance a majority of the world lives in.

We must now consider what effect NS has on the brain.

Thats a good point. Oblivion came out 3 weeks before my dissertation was due. perhaps the 30 hours I spent playing it had some impact on the pile of jizz I handed in. I bet sim city makes people smarter though. And if you play bust a move 2 for long enough you go blind. not that that stops anyone.

Depends, in some, maybe. In others, NS has the effect of turning the frontal lobes into compressed meat product.

Civilization, SimCity, Alpha Centauri, the list goes on and on. I have those games, and they are very fun to play.

Those games are the worst!

They make your brain ooze out of your ears and make you want to conquer the world!

There are only very few games that are not harmful. Here's an example (http://ps2.ign.com/objects/746/746738.html). :)

The message one can take away from this article: play video/computer games in moderation and explore the other fun elements of life…

Oh, and companies do not like bad publicity…

The list of good games omited most of the RTS genre. Warcraft, Starcraft, Dawn of War, Age of Empires... those count too.

Right, video games rot your brain. They also train you to be super killers. That's why every kid who's played Ninja Gaiden is now a stealthy ninja warrior easily capable of assassinating a highly placed government official. That's why GTA players are able to easily hijack cars and make a lot of money. That's why superb players of Rise of Nations are now leading armies against the nations of the world to conquer them.

...

OH WAIT...NONE OF THAT'S HAPPENING.

Sheesh. I can understand how SOME things would allow your brain to relax for a while, and ridiculously excessive use could potentially harm it, but overall? No.

My god...

So Nintendo was obviously bribing a brain specialist to get him off their case even though the money they gave him was sent towards a game that was intended solely to increase brain power?

Bullshit. Bullshit bullshit bullshit.

Indeed. "I would have hotwired that SUV, but I couldn't find the X, B, and A buttons!"

The paper is a load of dreck, because they ask the reader to infer that the douche claiming videogames and cigarrettes are coeval (and coevil) is correct. He isn't, not by a long shot. Cigarrette companies were lying about the fact that 1) cigarrettes are laced with carcinogens, and 2) they are also laced with chemicals that make you inable to stop intaking carcinogens. Video games are not laced with carcinogens, they are not laced with chemicals that make you inable to stop playing them, and judging by the fact that of the millions of GTA games sold, only an infintesimal fraction of those players have gone on to careers of shooting police stations, killing hookers, or stealing cars, there is no causal link to be inferred from the game and the acts. The whole inference that this article asks you to infer is therefore completely false.

Wait a second... I know that this is about video games rotting your brain, but I suppose violence fits in this category. I cannot remember or tell where I found this out, but isn't teenage violence down from the last ten years or so?

Anyway, back to the "Rotting Brain" stuff. I play videogames ALL day since my brother introduced me to them when I was like three. I get first honors, I want to write a book, and I'm a grammer Nazi...

Why does this not make sense?

Aside from a brief upswing in juvenile crime rates in 2001-2002, juvenile crime rates have been declining steadily since 1993. Crime rates have effectively been going down for a generation.

I'm a grammer Nazi...

Apparently not a spelling Nazi ;)

I've been playing games like Resident Evil, GTA, and some Freddy Krueger game for NES since I was about 7. I am not a killer, rapist, or any other type of degenerate. Nor is my brain shrinking in my head. I suspect that this is the case for a vast majority of game players. I don't think then, that you can correlate video games with violence and decreased intelligence.

That would be like correlating an increased crime rate in African Americans to mean that they are predisposed to crime. Now, if most African Americans were criminals, I might consider this, but considering that the vast majority are not, I think you can attribute black crime to some other factor(s). Anti-video gamers are well-versed in flawed logic.

Nah, he's a spelling communist.

And I must agree. I don't understand why so many people are against video games either. It's just another form of entertainment. People need to lighten up.

A study of Japanese games. Japan has games like Panty Raider and Mister Mosquito. Not to mention, if it really was about Nintendo games, then they are saying stuff like Super Mario Sunshine and Harvest Moon cause brain inactivity. Compared to such games as Grand Theft Auto and The Suffering, I can see why the brain would start shutting down. Then the article claims that a teenager had a pop up menu in his head telling him to shoot a cop and steal a police car. Grand Theft Auto doesn't really have those, or do they bother to do any research on the games they are comparing them to?

It is important to remember which games they study, as well as other data. The reason Australia has so many gaming systems in so many homes is more because of the lack of homes. Maybe they should remember how obesity is harmful and how even "Ah-nuld" is considered obese in one measuring system.

Fine, videogames are bad for us. Beef is bad for us. Fish has too many toxins in it. Pork is too fatty. Birds have the flu. Plants have too many chemicals in them. Excessive drinking of water posions the body. Too much cholesterol kills you, too little kills you and the same for fat. Wine is alcohol, so is bad, but makes you live longer if you drink it. Sex is essential for the human race to continue, but is now dangerous thanks to STDs.

I'm reminded of Mark Twains "Letters to the Earth" when Lucifer points out that everything the humans enjoy is absent from their heavan, and their heavan is filled with everything they hate.
