I was talking to a friend who lives in Norway, I was telling her how I watched "The Wizard of Oz", she said "What's that?"
...
I was surprised. How can you not know what "The Wizard of Oz" is??
Then on another day.. she told me she never saw "Mary Poppins"
How can people not know what these movies are?
Most of them aren't from the US.

It's quite possible that she has but simply didn't know the English titles. I don't know about Norway, but it's often the case here in Japan. And even if that weren't the case, how many Norwegian children's movies have you seen? Or Norweigian movies period. :)

How many Norwegian entertainment industries have international distribution?

I never liked the Wizard of Oz.
The witch reminded me of my (maternal) Grandmother who was very scary.
And those flying monkeys........!
The book now, the ACTUAL book was far superior a story than the movie.

Granted that it's not much, hence the comment about titles, but there's some.
I watched the Wizard of Oz for the first time....about a year ago.
Never watched Mary Poppins.

Does "Kjærlighetens kjøtere" count as Norweigian? I think it's one. And a damn good one at that. Another awesome bit of acting by Stellan Skarsgård (one of my favourite actors).

Once upon a time I was on an island off the west coast of Ireland, and was surrounded entirely by German speakers. Some of us were leaving the next day and the only way off the island was by a small rowboat, and discussion went on about the possibility of being stuck there due to the weather, and trying to work out what time we needed to start in order to catch the bus. Someone casually referred to the whole operation as D-Day.
Cue one German girl asking "Was ist D-Day?"
As if that wasnt bad enough, after it was explained to her there was some mumbling in German, and somebody then had to tell her "Nein, nicht die Erste Welteskreig."
Bizarre.

Not that many, but the Nordic countries make the most movies per capita every year. *nods*
I would imagine the title would be in English, the sound in English and there would be Norweigan, Swedish or Danish text in a "The Wizard of Oz" film in Norway 'cause it really does not matter all that much.

I do not know what the Norweigan working title means because I am lazy, but the movie is Norweigan.

Its funny you bring up The Wizard of Oz now as we just got the DVD for my 2 1/2 yr old daughter two days ago and she loves it.
I never cared for the story much. I have two older boys that have seen it-it plays on TV around one holiday or another-I forget which..
Anyway- my little girl is now wearing ruby slippers and has my wife do her hair like Dorothy.
I'm not getting her a little dog.
Years ago it occured to me all of the cool movies that were around when I was a kid and teen that my kids have never heard of because kids usually pay attention to only the latest new stuff as it comes out. I got them the Nightmare Before Christmas a few years ago and they were both obsessed with it. They never heard of it til I brought it up.
There are dozens of things like that that we are discovering now that they never heard of and we are finding and enjoying together.
