What do you think of the average American? (NOT thinking of any of the outside bias *Bush, Cheney, the American Gov't*) I know what everyone thinks of the leaders; what about the average Joe?

(I know this may have been addressed before, but I never saw it and I'm curiuos ((as an American myself)) )

I find most Americans to be immature, ignorant, and unwilling to admit that they might, in any way, be wrong. I've met some amazing Americans, though, and I am not, in any way, implying that all Americans are this way, but most of those I've met aren't the kind of people I can get along with.

Because if they were tourists, of course they were assholes.

Most of my friends are American and i love them to death. When it comes to ones who aren't my friends, i know and have met some who are perfectly nice and respectful, and some who are arrogant asses. No different from any other nation on earth as far as i'm concerned.

Stupid...yeah, that's about it. All other complaints stem from stupidity.

You think we're all dumbasses? Dude, not all of us take after Bush or the guy on the street corner. I've been to the UK and Germany, and they're all right (I liked the UK a bit more, but Germany was awesome too).

Yes, because that's who they are at heart, but they act like good God-Fearing (I never understood that term) Christians who cheat on their taxes and their spouses in real life. :)

'God fearing' wasn't literal. I asked my Catholic preist once, and he said it just meant that you loved Jesus.

Your priest was probably lying, or lying out of ignorance. It more likely comes from when God was considered to be a big meanie who'd kill you if you didn't sacrifice virgin animals and all that jazz. (If you disagree, you should read the Old Testament, especially the really fun stuff like Leviticus.) If you believed in God 1.0, you feared him and his wrath. (Can you blame them, with stuff like Sodom and Gomorrah going on?) Now, with God 2.0, he is loving and benevolent, and will accept even those who beat their wives and children and commit adultery into his kingdom if they just tell the confession box about it every week. :rolleyes:

All the tourist that I see in the summer, when I was in American malls I had so many bad experiences.

One of them called my mother a fat bitch.

Americans are FAT!! and getting EVEN FATTER!! Why dont your goverment do something? Like reducing the portions you eat in restaurants or etc...? They dont want to compromise consume as much as you can "philosophy"?

I think it would be fair to say that the average American is a human being. However, after that assumption, things start to get slightly confusing.

HOPEFULLY, THIS SHOULD HELP. I (a Californian) spent three weeks in Britain last summer, living with a friend of mine in a small village near Winchester. Just to see what it was like, I even attended a Brittish school for a week (the exact opposite of how American stereotypes portray them). And after all that, I think I may have found a reason. For starters, we're much louder. The family I was living with seemed to get somewhat irritated with that over time. As for Americans being stupid, I think that probably comes from Bush. As for insensitivity, If I am correct, that has come as a result of of peopple very stupidly beleiving than Americans (at least most of us) actually support our government (which, trust me, we don't (His approval rating is less than 35%; is that proof enough?).). Additionally, I was once informed that what people from other parts of the world think of Americans is what we (Californians) think of Texans, which, as one can guess, is not good.
