Spore. OR "OH GODS ME WANT SO BAD!"

See the spore video. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-394434397798392775&q=spore) Fall in love.

I mean, good god, I thought that this (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198&q=spore) was hot shit, but I knew nothing. The GDC display was chump change in comparison.

I think I might start a religion, or a cult. The coming of the mesiah is Fall 2006. Prepare your system, and your souls, cause this game is gonna blow your mind into heaven.

Seriously, I find this really freakin awesome. It's basically the ultimate sandbox game, and it's name was originally going to be "SIM Everything"
But spore turned out to be much catchier.

For those not in the know and too lazy to watch the video, spore is a game being made by will wright, coming out this fall (or so Will tells us) in which you guide and evolve a single celled organism to multicellular life, to eventual life as an organism with limbs and bones and eyes, to cities, to civilizations, to space... And every ounce of it is player created!
Check out this video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4464314857469915663&q=spore) of what one fan was inspired to create from just the idea!

There's already a thriving community, and I'm preordering as soon as I can. This will be the first game I have ever preordered.

You make creatures in a system similer to working with clay, you design a skeleton and add limbs, everything is mutable, and the game figures out through algorithyms (sp?) how they should move. I've seen branching systems of six legs. I've seen awesome things.

Discuss.

Edit: More explanation about spore, from the mouth of Will Wright. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1787052479157847670&q=spore)
It is being called a "massively single player game" as other players creations are automatically downloaded to fill out the ecosystems of your planets.

Pant-wettingly exciting. I’ve been looking forward to this for over a year now.

Yeah, this got me rediculously exited when I saw the new video from E3.

Just providing a little timeline here:
in 2005 Will Wright had an hour long presentation at the GDC (Game Developers Conference) in which he detailed a game unlike the world had ever seen before. It was called spore and used "proceedural meathods" to determine from a skeleton and a body how something would move and act. This game can take nearly any skeletal framework and make it move fluidly and believably. The stuff that pixar artists took years to make can be done in minutes. Now, just recently, E3 went down, and there were a number of other presentations on spore.

It's coming out this fall, and I simply can't wait.

As a follower of Spore, I have to say it's not scheduled for a pre-2007 release. All the fall 06 info are older than the new ones saying April 2007. It sucks, I know, but there seems to be lots of issues to work out still. A friend of mine was actually invited to the E3 expo VIP room, and when he got to try the creature editor(LUCKY HIM!), it crashed.

After typing this I realize it looks like a big fat lie, but it's true.

It looks neat. However, I won't buy it. It's not my kind of game. For the sort of people into the Sims, it will be awesome, but I spent about 5 hours on that game and by that point felt I had pretty much exhausted the game mechanics. I suspect Spore will fall prey to the same thing.

Hehe...

Fall prey.

...

*Eaten by large, multicellular organism designed in someone's model editor in punishment for the bad pun*

I posted a thread about this last year, and I got pretty much the same responses :D

Anyhoo, I digress. I downloaded the 200 meg video from Gamespot, and I have to say...

Fucking Awesome!

This game is just going to blow my sox off. Unfortunatly, last year, Will Wright said the game would be coming out Q4 2006, but now it looks like Q1 2007...

Anyone want to take bets on minimum specs? I have good odds on "Deep Thought". I never realised that it was possible for a game to look so tempting and yet so unattainable.

The best bit, assuming they leave it in, will be putting your creatures online with everyone elses, and watching natural selection at work. My Gorillapotomus will kick ass. sadly not till 2007 if we're lucky.

And we can answer the age old question: If a giant vagina fought a gaint penis, which would win?

Vagina covers penis. Vagina wins.
