3 American wives about to be kicked out of Canada

Yep, that's right. 3 American wives married to Winston Blackmore are about to be deported.

3 Bountiful wives ordered out (http://www.cbc.ca/bc/story/bc_bountiful20060512.html)
Last Updated: May 12 2006 07:49 PM PDT

Three American women living in the polygamous B.C. community of Bountiful have been ordered to leave the country by Canada Immigration.

Edith Barlow, Martha Chatwin, and Zelpha Chatwin are all married to the former bishop of Bountiful, Winston Blackmore. Among them, they have 16 children, all of whom were born in Canada.

But the women are still American citizens, and their applications to remain in Canada on humanitarian and compassionate grounds have been denied.

The children can stay in Canada with their father, and his more than 20 other wives.

The three women can't apply to immigrate as spouses, because they are not legally married. And they don't qualify as skilled workers, or as students.

They may still be able to appeal to the Federal Court, or ask the Canada Border Services Agency to make a determination as to whether their safety would be at risk in the U.S.

Failing that, they may simply refuse to leave. Some other women in Bountiful have already vowed they won't let Canadian Immigration officials separate children from their parents.

The controversial community in southeastern B.C. has an estimated population of more than 1,000 people. It was established in the late 1940s by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – a breakaway sect of the Mormon Church.

So here's my point of view:

- It's a sad situation that the 3 wives have to be seperated from their 16 kids. (Why feel sorry for them BTW)
- Who ever arrange the marriage for the 3 of them must be not very smart.
- I oppose polygamy, should be illegal.
- Winston Blackmore should be arrested and charged for underage sex. Some of his wives are under 16.
- I wish Warren Jeffs is captured by the FBI soon. (who's that guy btw)
- Discuss?

I saw something on them a while ago. The leader was comparing himself to Gerhard Schröder in a speech/sermon as a feeble attempt to impress the German reporters doing the story. Isn't that the community that bankrupts other local businesses by sending their children to do the work for much cheaper?

I can say I care little to none about the emotional comforts of women with so little self-respect for men to treat them like collectors items. If they have no respect for themselves, who's to say they have respect for their children?

Although I do not believe polygamy should be illegalized (namely because a nation's laws should not be based on morality), I believe justice is served in that I can hardly imagine happiness in such a material-based society.

These women should be ashamed.

Hypocritical religions do dumbfound me.

Well, you do get that problem everytime a religion goes about with the Mr. Morality mindset. It encourages the Holier than thou mindset for the leaders and gets a fair bit of mindless sheep.

Certain religions, which I will not name, actually place importance on that bit about being sheep.

No sympathy for the adults that choose to obey this bozo.

Is bigamy legal in Canada?
If he is a fugitive from the US why can't he be extradited by Canada, do we have no such treaty with them? It's not like he's charged with a capital offense.

Polygomy eh?

I have no idea why someone would want to do this, I mean think of it. Having to deal with one on her period can be bad enough... now try it with 2,3,4,and up. *Shivers* Well, to each thier own.

Good question, I am sure it has happened in that way as well. My last statement can go for them as well, just replace period with crappy mood.

because in the US and canada its mostly done for religious reasons with underaged girls being pressured into marrying old men. if you remove the apostate mormons from the equation, its rare and it rarely involves underaged girls with no visible means of support.

Well...Fie on them. I'm thinking...4 wives, 3 husbands...Assuming they can all get along, that's something you've gotta figure out for yourself.

if these women were in canada legally and were self supporting like any other legal immigrant, them im sure that canada wouldnt give a damn about them or their 16 children. after all THEY arent married and there is no law against illegitimate children in canada. i am equally sure that if they wanted, they would be allowed to take their children with them.
