So I got this random spamvertisement today:

You are God sent.

FROM MRS Chstine Jeacock ARE GOD SENT PLEASE ENDEAVOUR
TO USE IT FOR THE CHILDREN OF GOD. I am married to Dr. Smith Jeacock, who
worked with an embassy in Uk for nine years before he died in the year 2001.
We were married for eleven years without a child. He died after abrief
illness that lasted for only four days.

Before his death we were both MUSLIM.Since his death I decided not to
re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is
against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of$12 Million
(Twelve Million U.S. Dollars) with a Reserve Bank in UK. Presently, this
money is still under the safe keeping of the Reserve bank . Recently, my
Doctor told me that I would not last for the next three months due to my
cancer problems. Though what disturbs me most is my stroke . Having known my
condition, I decided to donate this fund to church or better still a MUSLIM
individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct here
in. I want a church that will use this fund on, orphanages and widows
propagating the word of God and to ensure that the house of God is
maintained. The Bible made us to understand that Blessed is the hand that
giveth. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will
inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians and I don't
want my husband's hard earned money to be misused by unbelievers. I don't
want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly manner. Hence
the reason for taking this bold decision.
I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going.

I know that I am going to be in the bossom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says
that thelord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. I don't need any
telephone communication in this regard because of my health because of the
presence of my husband's relatives around me always. I don't want them to
know about this development. With God all things are possible.

As soon as I receive your reply I will forward your personal information to
the Reserve Bank so that they will contact you as the legal owner of this
fund before transfering the fund into your nominated Bank Account in your
country.

I will also issue you a letter of authority that will empower you as the
original beneficiary of this fund.
I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my
shephard. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever
that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and truth.
Please always be prayerful all through your life.
Please as sure me that you will act accordingly as I stated here in. Hoping
to hear from you as soon
as possible.. Remain blessed in the name of the Lord.

First off, I love the hyprocrisy and continuity errors(claiming to be Muslim yet saying she lived a life as a Christian?). I also love how they assume I'm some kind of Christian when you all know me well as a flaming athiest. Third, that they think anyone would fall for anything like this is just pathetic.

So, why do they do it? Why do they work so hard on such horrible scams for amounts of money that just simply aren't worth it?

Because it's less labor-intensive than prostitution.

Spam is more than falling towards rock bottom. It's flying down there with digging equipment.

The low turnaround is the reason why a lot of these scams are conducted from third-world nations. Even if they grab only a couple of dolars a day on average, in a lot of places that's enough to live on comfortably.

Wow. Just really wow. How much lower can a person go, morally? I read this and it just makes me ashamed to be human.:(

But wait, is she a Muslim or a Christian? Or some strange combination? I don't get that part:confused:

It's spam. As in, false in order to lure you into giving your money away.

TG: I seem to be immune to its mind-dumbing powers. Whether that is a good thing or not has yet to be seen.

Some woman in the *UK?* is asking for money and personal information "for a church fund to help an orphanage." And we're not sure if she's ChristoIslamic or use to be Muslim but converted to Christianity or what.

It's your standard 419 scam. The chappy actually doing the emailing probably isn't too au fait on the Queen's english. But if you do express an interest, and plenty of people, even otherwise intelligent people, do (admittedly usually to slightly more carefully constructed stories than this), then they'll probably pass you on to a more educated scammer. It's something like the third biggest industry in Nigeria, so they do get successful from time to time.
