Worst movie you've seen recently (that you thought would be good)

Okay a little work boredom here (but what else is new)
Recently i acquired from netflix david cronenbergs history of violence. As a big fan of cronenbergs films I could not wait to watch it. After seeing it thought i must say it is the biggest dissappointment of a movie I've seen since the Chronicles of Narnia (yes, Narnia sucked balls get over it).
Anyone else have any other sad tales of great expectations in films they saw recently...or ever really.
Please discuss, my sanity depends on it. :p
EDIT: also since i have little money and time to be wasting on future disappointments, anyone recommend any good films that have come out recently whether on DVD or theaters????

Hostel. 'nuff said.
I long for the day when they make scarey movies scarey again. Hostel didn't even have good gore effects. Such obvious prosthetics should be a criminal offense.

I've heard a lot about hostel being horrible, and it's sad. How can you make a torture movie horrible???
I can't remember the last time a genuinely scary film was released.

Well, this isn't a recent movie, but I've been on a Western kick recently in my rental purchases, and I was fairly disappointed by Clint Eastwood's Pale Rider. I've heard good things about it, and I've liked Eastwood's directorial efforts in other movies. This movie, however, was just all off. While Eastwood himself is very good, most of the other characters are poorly-acted and act without much in the way of motivation or even foreshadowing. Even worse, the ending gunfight was only one because Eastwood's dangerous and despicable opponents could very will make stormtroopers and red-shirt extras look like Mensa members by comparison. I suppose I'll look it over again, but I've seen far better gunfights, better acting, and better scenery before.

He hasn't. Craven only "presented" it - meaning it was some indie film thrown in his lap that he said, "Yeah, I'll pay for it."
It was written by Brendan Hood and directed by Harmon/Bota.
It came close. But still not close enough to count. It had a lot of potential and I'd love to see it remade properly.

Narnia, History of Violence, Hostel, and War of the Worlds all sucked ass, tis true.
But I was more dissappointed in Sin City. I heard that it was SO GREAT, and it turned out to be a piece of crap.
And I finally caved, and gave in to everyone saying it was so wonderful, and saw Napoleon Dynamite. I can't walk outside without seeing "vote for Pedro" T-shirts. The whole world seems to be in love with this movie. Yet that piece of shit was the absolute worst movie I have ever seen. Bar none.

Donnie Darko. Sub-par acting meets trying-too-hard-to-be-cult director meets metaphysical bullshit that they apparently nailed together from a mixture of bad Japanese cartoons and marijuana. Not to mention that around here it seems to be the equivalent of Napoleon Dynamite wherever AllCoolNamesAreTaken lives.

See the movie. It is one of the rare examples of the film being better than the book.
If you want a good Foer book, read "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close". He's getting better at his work.

The most recent movies I've seen (which won't fit in here at all, LOL) were Brokeback Mountain and Memoirs of a Geisha. Maybe its just because I expected both to be really good, but I must say I was dissapointed. I wouldn't call either of them "crap", just dissappointing.

I know it's not a recent movie by a longshot, but I only saw it two weeks ago.
2001: A Space Odyssey was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The book was amazing, so I was naturally excited to see the movie. I think Kubrick just wanted to test how long people would look at blank screens or listen to monotone machine hums.
Fortunately, Kubrick has Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining to save him.

Not that I was expecting much, mind, just some snazzy effects and nice set-piece action sequences.

I did one better and got it from the library, thus preventing me from dropping so much as a dime on that abortion on film. There were two gags in that worth seeing, but if that is the standard for a good movie then Cabin Fever was decent too.
My most recent dissapointment was Silent Hill. I sort of got my hopes up before going (Ebert hated, after all, and he is the biggest tool to fool someone into thinking he had good taste in movies), and was hoping to see the Hellraiser 2 of this decade. Regretfully, the good gore/horror was sparingly used, the director kept cutting away from the interesting bits, and there was far too much exposition/plot.

What the hell is with all the Sin City hate? That movie fucking owns. I mean, it's not as good as Pulp Fiction--that's a pretty tall order-- but it's not like the acting, story, or cinematography [quite the contrary!] can possibly be described as "crap." Plus, seeing an enormous Mickey Rourke was amusing, to say the least.
A History of Violence wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be, but I can't say I was disappointed per se. I think a lot of people expected more action and less heavy family business. Understandable.
I quite enjoyed a History of Violence.
Though, I can't say I was a huge Cronenberg fan based on his previous work. Videodrome? Dead Ringers? Crash? Not great films.
Ultraviolet was awful, but we really should have expected that.
MI3, I think was better than MI2, which I hated. The first one - the one that wasn't an action movie - was the only good one, though. MI3 wasn't good. It just wasn't as bad as MI2.
Transporter 2 is the worst movie I've ever seen, and I've seen some real crap.

For me, I don't know why I don't like it, i just don't think it lived up to the hype. I've got the Sin City comics and I was hoping for a lot more from the movie, but it was just a film version of the comics which was kinda dissappointing as nothing was new really.
The way it was filmed was excellent and the acting was exactly how i pictured it when I read the comics.
I just didn't think it lived up to the hype. Maybe because I fell for the hype and expected it to be the best thing ever, but it wasn't. As I've already said, I prefered A History of Violence.
I guess its because I knew what was going to happen and therefore it didn't provide any shocks for me.
