What should the EU be?

The German Chancellor has made yet another speech (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,415461,00.html) regarding the EU recently, and she'll take over the Presidency in January. (Haven't heard so much from the Austrians in recent months...)
Incidentally, that is also when Romania and Bulgaria are going to join, which I'm not (http://www.bangkokpost.com/News/12May2006_news24.php) sure (http://www.heritage.org/research/features/index/country.cfm?id=Romania) is (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/spiegel/0,1518,352874,00.html) such (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,329444,00.html) a (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/spiegel/0,1518,411290,00.html) great (http://www.theglobalist.com/DBWeb/StoryId.aspx?StoryId=2064) idea (http://www.balkanalysis.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=530). It seems like too little was done in these countries after their inclusion was approved. Indeed, maybe the criteria where too lax as well.
At the same time the EU is now sending troops overseas on EU-missions (http://www.consilium.europa.eu/showPage.asp?id=909&lang=en).
So...what do you think the EU should ultimately look like? And how realistic is it that it'll get there?
What sort of reforms would you support?
And will the EU ever become a superpower?

I don't think they'll become a superpower but they will become strong.

I think the EU should fully merge into a true European Union a la the United States. You guys are all practically that way as it is in Europe anyway. Might as well complete it. We can get moving on an Arab Federation next, and then the Russo-Asian Confederacy.
The original idea-economic advantage-it's going to end up as, no matter what. Even if it is a bit of a nuisance for those outside the trading bloc, it's good for those who can get into the club.
I don't mind the idea of EU military missions-the UN is so paralyzed that I can't put my faith in them anymore. Hadn't heard about their Congo missino prior to this, actually. Still, I doubt the EU as a military force will ever really take off: Europe and it's affairs was the actual point of creating it, and people will grouse if it gets too serious beyond that.
The EU should be a world class producer and purveyor of kinky porn... and hair care products.

There are a growing number of European politicans, however, who engage on a different level of politics - what does that mean?. Remember when people said Tony Blair was acting as though he wanted to be President of Europe?

I thought America had that covered? :p
Dead and buried, me dancing on its grave.
Can you really dance on a concepts grave?
Anyways, why are you against it?

He was, remember? :p

It would be fun to find out. I have full confidence I'd find a way.
Anyways, why are you against it?
I'm big on democratic principles, transparency and accountability. I.e. the things the EU seems to be made to quash.

Very Tao.

Then why are so many Europeans for it? It is it just ignorance? Tax incentives? Nationalistic Unity? A way to oppose the United States?
As i really don't know much about the EU, its a great way for me to learn and keep this thread open for longer then like 2 pages. =)

I was thinking Winnie the Pooh.

Umm, there are many against it.

Pick any inanity as the ones you mentioned, and you'll probably be mostly right.

Wikipedia and http://europa.eu.int/ have much information.

Well, I'm sure you'll hear plenty of arguments against the whole system, but here is a link explaining how it works right now:

 Did you just tell someone to look something up on wikipedia?

Yes. When it comes to such drab explanations as "How does the EU work?" which can be found everywhere and easily corroborated, it's sufficient.
I thought America had that covered? :p
Nah - It is still too puritan. Movies intentionally skip perfect opportunities for booby shots, someone flashes a pasty during the superbowl and half the nation pisses their pants, prime time talks about tits but you never really see any. They'd rather show a man with a bullet hole in his head than a clean piece of trim. Really quite sad. We need the EU to fix this poor attitude about the beauty of the human form.
And make it kinky too, with midgets, and donkeys, and pizza, and firetrucks, and legos - yea, lots of legos. And spray-cheese, and doritos, and ... oh - are we still talking about sex?
We can get moving on an Arab Federation next, and then the Russo-Asian Confederacy.
In other words: Nasser's "United Arab Republic" and the USSR.
