Jon Stewart 2008?

I'd like to hear your opinion on how you think John Stewart would be as President of the U.S.A. He did after all write a book about politics (America: The Book), he's old enough, and he also has the charisma that might be neccessary for running. So... what do you say? Oh, and be sure to vote.

I would certainly vote for him.

Why does Colbert pronounce report "repor"? I know its like his name, but come on!

It is a play on the word "rapport," which ironically describes his show much better than report.

As for the main question, I like Jon Stewart, agree with his politics often, but he just doesn't have the know-how and ability to assume this position.

He is doing a much better job keeping those in that position on their toes.

But if he resists corrupion, he's not likely to get elected. Politicians have to lie out their asses to get in to office and then have to do all kinds of favors for lobbyists and activists even to have a shot at winning.

I think he could resist being personally corrupted, but he would hate every minute of it because he would have to go against a lot of the things he stands for to stay in office.

He would be a great president. He's not the best man for the job, but he's not the worst like Bush and Kerry were (for example). My response that he would be the Mashiah is only meant relatively. He could fix our economy and our credibility because he's consciencious and will listen to people who know what they're talking about. He seems to be good at recognizing bs, or at least his writers are.

Besides whether you vote for him or not, he will win because of his secret Qabala of forum-lurkers/balot-counters!

Stewart/Colbert would be a great ticket, applying to a wide demographic. But I fear that Colbert would make a poor Vice President because he would refuse to question the President. However, his son would make a great campaign mascot, what with pecking the opposition's eyes out and whatnot.
Not bad

Ive lived in California long enough to see a certain amount of entertainment industry folk in politics. Ronald Reagan, Mike Curb, Sonny Bono, Jerry Brown, Arnold Schwartzenunspellable Clint Eastwood and more.

Couldnt we just nominate a plankton to rule us instead of another actor? For the benefit of the country and all.

Good point. After all, politicians are the reason why thinks are so messed up in the first place. Think of it this way. If your pipes are broken, you don't want a plumber fixing them. He's the one who put them in in the first place. Get somebody without any experience at fixing pipes, like a dentist. That way you can be sure he doesn't know what he's doing enough to screw things up.

Unfortunately, our brilliant political system has been set up so no one with any will power can become president. Or if they do become president, one of the oaths they have to take is that they renounce all morals, principles, and tenets previously held. I would definitely vote for Jon, but I'm afraid the system would break his spirit. Now if he teamed up with Colbert AND Carell again, the three of them could be unstoppable...

There are plenty of people like Jon Stewart who are perfectly politically knowledgeable but have never been in office. I would say there are some who would do good in office as they have not been corrupted by special interest groups. His "jokes" are not really jokes at all. he pauses mid frame and pulls stuff out of his ass, or just pauses at a moment that can completely change the meaning of what was being said. i think the only reason the show has lasted so long is the other people on the show. the interviews and reports all the other people do are what make the show wroth watching. besides lewis black, that guy is just plain annoying and if i wanted to hear people bitch and complain i would come here to NS general

Jon Stewart has what I'd call, for lack of a better term, a great negative wisdom. He's great at spotting bad ideas and pointing out the flaws. It would be nice if politicians thought that this was a good thing, instead they just complain "well what's your idea?"

I've seen no evidence that Jon would make a good president, however if a candidate said that he'd like Jon Stewart to be his secretary of state, I would soooo vote for that guy.

If you actually believe America would vote for this loon. You're wrong, infact if he was a candidate he wouldn't get one state. Sorry, but people who play in pothead movies don't win. People don't want people who joke around in the white house. And people don't want a liberal who associates himself with hollywood and the so called "socialists" class. When actually they are people who think the country would be better off if they shutted up, and formed a line behind them. Yes, the good guys are the terrorists, and the bad guys are the U.S. soldiers. oh yeah, in your fucking dreams people. put down the pipe and get back into reality. Jon Stuart doesn't have the balls nor the capability to run for president.

why limit ourselves to just one actor-turned-canidate? I call for a Christopher Walken vs. Jon Stewart 2008 election. http://walken2008.ytmnd.com/
EDIT: See also, the hoax site http://walkenforpres.com/

This just in--the American voters are uninformed! I know this must come as a shock to you Kathode Ray, but the thing is, people would vote for him. And just because Stewart happens to be an actor doesn't mean he has the political view associated with Hollywood. Remember Reagan? I'm not sure, but I don't think he was a Communist just because he was an actor.

And Hollywood wasn't as corrupt back then in 50's. They had movies of PRO-WAR about ww2, and they supported it. Now it's sympathizing with the enemies of our war. And trying to make the enemies look like the ones who are the good guys and the US soldiers are the terrorists.

People always know who they're voting for. I think you would vote for Jon Stuart, And I don't think you are misinformed. America is not misinformed, the only ones who are misinformed, are the ones telling them they are misinformed. And when you do this to stupid fickle minded 14 year olds, they go out and listen to Anti-flaggot and watch shitheads like Jon Stuart.

Jon Stuart for president is a pipe dream. Get over it, it won't happen.

You underestimate the power of a populus where more people vote for American Idol than the President. This is America, Jon Stewart's victory is a distinct possibility. Thhe only thing he has a gainst him is that he's not a Protestant, and folks like you. And really, who cares about the latter?
