The UEFA Cup Final - Middlesbrough vs. Sevilla

Tonight 19:45 BST, 20:45 CET, 15:45 EST - Eindhoven

So, who do you think will win?

Self proclaimed under dogs Middlesbrough or the high flying Spanish outfit Sevilla?

Boro have reached the final with 2 amazing comebacks in the last two rounds, beating both Basel and Steaua Bucuresti 4-3 over two legs. In both home games the 'Boro required 3 goals in the 2nd half of each game to over come their opponents and duly did so, both winners coming late in both games from Italian striker/right winger Massimo Maccarone. Boro finished 14th in the English Premier League.

Sevilla endured a tough time against Schalke in the last round beating them by only a single goal in extra time. However, in the previous rounds they enjoyed good wins over Zenit St Petersburg and Lille (5-2 and 2-1 respecitvely). Sevilla are currently 5th in the Spanish 1st Division with two games to play (against Barcelona and Real Madrid....eeeek!!!).

Sevilla have got to be favourites. Middlesbrough will have to run out of luck some time...

I've got to say Sevilla are favourites too, but I'm backing 'Boro to give them a suprise.

Besides, they're an English team and I back english teams no matter who they are when they play in Europe.

Yeah, Seville all the way. Middlesbrough just aren't good enough. Schwarzer is out with a broken cheekbone, so while he could play it's more likely to be Brad Jones (I think that's their reserve 'keeper?), and he's not brilliant.

I reckon Seville to win by 2. Probably 3-1. They'll take the lead midway through the first half, Boro will equalise between 40 and 45 minutes, then Seville will score again on about 60, before scoring their third on a counter-attack in the last 5 minutes.

I won't be watching it, because it's the final of the Apprentice tonight. :D

As long as Brad Jones doesn't have to think he's a pretty decent keeper...like David James...bwahahahaha

They reached the last 16. Lost to Sporting Lisbon. Don't know the score.

I can't see Boro doing it this time; their great moments were in the last two games.

If it was two legged, we know Boro would win.

It will be the last game for their manager and even without one very good keeper, their second is pretty good for his age. I think Boro will just squeeze the win becuase I'm English.

Middlesbrough, of course. They'll win 3-2 after trailing 0-2.

Oh, Liverpool to win the FA Cup 2-1 over West Ham too. :)

The man has just been made England manager. Therefore, fate demands that he proves just how good a choice he was by losing, as spectatually as possible.

The Test starts tommorow. Hurrah! :D

Fair point.

But it's his last game for 'Boro as well, should prove interesting...

Lets go for a triumvirate of underdogs:

Boro, West Ham and Arsenal!

It is much more likely that these three will be the losers though.

I think Liverpool will win 2-0 and Arsenal win 1-0 after Germany 1 keeper makes many great saves.

Well its 4-0 to Sevilla now, but how in the name of all things holy did Boro not get a penalty?!!? That ref needs to grow some balls...

That said Sevilla deserved it, although 4-0 is flattering to say the least.

As the only Romanian here, I'm going to give voice to a tune that has become popular as of late in my country: Steaua sucks ass.

How did it come to that? How can a team be so absurd as to go in defense the moment they score, knowing that they do not even need to win to qualify?

What is more sickening, the usual journalist soccerologists have started blaming the only foreigner at Steaua, a certain Carlos (the goalie), mostly for being a foreigner. Of course, they noted that some ethnic Romanian players were crap, but get this: they were so only because "Carlos had taken them on a drinking spree". It just makes me sick to consider how stupid my countrymen can be.

Hard on Boro, 2-0 would have been fair result. No the night they struggled but well done for getting as far as the final

Recent history tells me that German keepers need to be able to deal with Brazilian strikers...:p
