Yeah, I'm behind the times, so sue me. But I saw this the other day when visiting relatives since they had all the movie channels and it quite frankly kicked ass.

Has anyone else seen this movie? If no, go out and watch it you slackers. It seems to be underhyped, I don't recall hearing anything about it when it came out, and never really saw anything about it except that it was playing on the monitors at Suncoast in the mall once.

It's superb for a first-time director and a (comparatively) paltry budget. Most of the backdrops are CG.

Sorry, I didn't like it. But I can see how if you were in the right mood it could be enjoyable. I blame the government for not supplying me with free drugs.

I think some of it might have been making fun of cheap special effects, but who knows?

Don't know know about Euan McGreggor but the Angelina Jolies are in it, that is all three of them. The two that everyone notices and the one that just stands in the background. The background Angelina Jolie really outdid herself by wearing an eyepatch.

Ah, good stuff.

The more you know about the history of film and cinematic sci-fi the more you like that movie. It was a giant Valentine to an era of film and story telling.

I loved the movie a great deal. Most of the haters missed the point all together-which for the most part I don't have a problem with, not everything is for everybody and no one is required to like it, but the haters where out in force on that film. Pissin' me off...

I can relate to this. I didn't enjoy the movie very much, but what the hell were people expecting to see when they went to a movie called, "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow?"

The second I saw the flying airship I was like "This shit is S.H.I.E.L.D." Then Angelina Jolie comes out as the commander of the flying carrier wearing a fucking eyepatch - "S.H.I.E.L.D., definately S.H.I.E.L.D." You know they were paying royalties for that shit.

It would've kicked as in the theatre.

A good reason to not watch something, because it looked stupid. How did it look stupid? Where did they even advertise this movie?

It was kind of campy, but campy stuff kicks ass. Hail to the king, baby.
The wanna-be 1940's look and feel with the crazy Disney "world of tomorrow" death robots thing going on just made it awesome. Though the guy's magic gun was strange, not the disentegration gun, his personal side-arm that changed from a Luger into a .45 ACP into some revolver or other.

The only part that wasn't CG were the actors themselves. As for the movie, it was pretty sweet. Felt like one big comic book.:)

When I first saw the trailers my friend turned to me and said, "They might as well have called that, "Hey CToaN*, Watch This Movie"

My racing game name (the only time I don't use Walrus) comes from a comic book in the genre of Sky Captain. Well, when I don't Micheal Delanay...(no one's getting that unless they use google...)

There where months of solid advertizing for this movie. It's where run more than enzyte ads during a NASCAR race. I dunno how you missed them.

The fact that the planes had flapping wings is what made me not want to see it.

It's an homage to shows like Captain Midnight, Sky King Speed King, and Radar Men from the Moon (featuring Commando Cody-not to be confused with Commander Cody of The Space Patrol...)

Ah, that explains it. I don't watch stupid things like NASCAR.

Too busy watching cars drive in circles at 200mph? Maybe planes with flapping wings was just a little too abnormal, like taking a right turn.

They didn't put enough work into making us care about the characters in my opinion. We don't care about Sky Captain's and reporter lady's sexual tension because we don't really care about them. Personally I think the movie should have ended with Sky Captian and Dexter afirming their love for each other and the reporter lady getting it on with Angelina Jolie. Now that would have been good.

I loved the movie, but now that you mention that.... i coulda really dug seeing gweneth adn angelina gettin it on....but i really do love the old campy sci-fi black and white movies.... yes there were plot holes you could drive a 747 through, oh well, show me a movie that doesn't (such as mysterious self healing bullet holes that apparently stop leaking fuel after landing back at base.... the point of a movie is not to bring us into reality, but to bring us out of reality, and thats what a good movie does, its suspends reality and draws us into the fantasy worlds they create... a crap movie (like capote) fails to bring about any interest whatsoever.... this may also explain why i like micheal moore movies so much, cause of all the fantasy that boy brings into play.... the sky really is pink in that fellas world.... but i digress

Good CGI effects for a first time director and budget. But the plot was absolute garbage. The director should do one of two things: A, Become a CGI specialist, B, spine up on plot and script-writing.

Well I pretty much agree with what you say, but being old and cynical I find it hard to get lost in a movie unless it's done right. There are things writers and directors can do to make it easier for us. For example I think the original Indianna Jones does a lot better job of making us care about the characters and what's going to happen to them, despite also being extremely unrealistic. (And come on, you can't tell me there isn't something going on between Sky Captain and Dexter.)

Seen it, loved it, bought it.

It reminded me very much of Crimson Skies which was nice 'cause it is a very unvalued game.

You've got some good ideas there sonny :p
And I agree with you that I didn't care what happened to the characters - I found Gwyneth Paltrow to be simply annoying in her role

I could have tolerated the movie if it wasn't for her. I cheered when Jude Law punched her in the face, and laughed my ass off at the very end, crying out "Serves you right!"

I hated that character so much that I simply can't get past it and enjoy the movie, despite two additional viewings.

I loved this movie. What people don't understand is that they can't compare it to any other movie on the market. This paid homage to the shows my Dad watched, and I adored it. As for character development and whatnot... they didn't do it back then, so why should they have done it now?

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Yes, the characters were a little two dimensional - but that's part of the genre! Yes, Gwynneth was annoying, but that's part of the genre too!

It's not a perfect movie. Few movies are. But if you go into a movie with the same expectations for each film, then you miss out on a lot.

I saw it in a theater and I thought it was great. Sure the effects are cheesy and some of the acting is over the top but it's hilarious, and intentionally so I think.
