Are there any Archivist in here? The reason I am asking is that I have a History major (senior in college, graduate in Dec. 2006), and I need to find a niche. Archivist have been suggested. So, how is the job? Does it pay well? (eh I don't ask for much hopefully $1,100 bi-weekly to start off with), and how are the benefits? Are there any private companies that need Archivist? So tell me about your job man!

So tell me about your job man!I'm not one myself, but a friend of my boyfriend's is. I don't really know the girl, but my understanding is that she is very well paid and that her job is pretty high profile - she speaks at a lot of big conferences and suchlike. I think she's in the public sector, but I'm sure some big firms - the large law firms, for example - would require archivists from time to time. The public sector here in the UK has reasonably good benefits such as flexible hours, but I don't know what it would be like where you are.

I also understand, though, that archiving is a difficult area to get into in the first place, and it may well take postgraduate study of archiving specifically. However, it may be more commonplace and easier to get into elsewhere (I'm guessing you're in the States). At the end of the day, if you're committed, you can do well anyway. Good luck!
