German "Robin Hood" Superheroes Stick Finger Up At Reform

A GANG of anarchist Robin Hood-style thieves, who dress as superheroes and steal expensive food from exclusive restaurants and delicatessens to give to the poor, are being hunted by police in the German city of Hamburg.

The gang members seemingly take delight in injecting humour into their raids, which rely on sheer numbers and the confusion caused by their presence. After they plundered Kobe beef fillets, champagne and smoked salmon from a gourmet store on the exclusive Elbastrasse, they presented the cashier with a bouquet of flowers before making their getaway.

The latest robbery is part of a pattern over the past several months, suggesting that the thieves deliberately set out to highlight what they perceive as the inequality inherent in German society.

This is the best news I have ever had the extreme delight to read.

This has nothing to do with reform though (and I haven't found it on any German media yet...)

Sounds like they have taken a leaf out of the Dutch Provos' book from the late 60's.

Everything has to do with reform. Just ask Gordon Brown.

As funny as that story sounds - it did not find any coverage in the German media.

They must be the reporters. I mean Superman's secret identity was a reporter and what do you think he'd do if people were gonna print mean stories about him. Be on the look out for suspicious reporters with extremely bad hair and glasses I say.

Make a point? They’re hoodlums and that is all that they are convincing people of. The fact they are dressing up proves this. In proper civil disobedience, one is not afraid of the consequences of their actions; in fact, at times they want to face those consequences. If you want people to take you seriously and not create a backlash against your movement you have to carry out mass civil demonstrations and organized civil disobedience. If you succeed otherwise, which is unlikely without force of arms on your side, the legitimacy of what you accomplished will always be questioned.
Not bad

Most Robin Hoods steal from the rich and give to themselves. Whether they are disguised as superheroes or parliament members. I reckon these did the same.

Given that the essence of civil disobedience is breaking the rules any talk of 'proper' civil disobedience and adherence to another set of rules is somewhat erroneus.

The essence of civil disobedience is breaking rules in such a way that brings sympathy to your cause. If you’re being a nuisance and hiding behind masks, nobody is going to care when they haul your ass off to jail.
