And the case wasn't really closed. This is after the BGH nullified the original sentence of 8 years and had them do a retrial.

But your logic is that if you break the law, you should be punished.

It's a bullshit sentence. Under german laws he should have gotten what he originally did. He got a sentence of 8 years originally I believe. Given that the guy wanted to be eaten, and was on video given several chances to say no, I fail to see why he should have gotten life in prison.
