yep, Sunday is Mother's Day. (do they have that anywhere but the USA?)
I know what I am getting....hahahahahahahaha (shhh.... don't tell)
my husband is going to cook my favorite comfort foods, and let me hang out on the couch and play PS2 and tend to my every need, I won't have to get up at all :D and of course I know he is going to do it, because I demand it LOL, or it's tradition or something.... you pick.
I went the cheap route this year and bought all the mom's the same thing, so for my mom, my mother in law, my other mother in law (hubby's step mom) and my hubby's grandma
bath salts (homemade)
decorative soaps (smell like roses)
and sparkley candles, it's all in a pretty basket with ribbon and stuff, very girly.
so, whatcha giving your mom?

I believe other countries have 'International Women's Day'.
I haven't decided what I'll be getting my mother. Probably a card, some flowers, and sugar free chocolates.

we have it here in the UK but its in march sometime... been and gone :)
I got my mom a cute card (Deciphering the secret language of MomSpeak) and a CD, a new compilation at WalMart called Just For Her or All For Her or something like that. One song on it is mom's "theme song" according to one of her coworkers, Don't Cha by the Pussycat Dolls, but there are also some other great songs from some great artists. :)

Sure they do. Did you honestly think that the US is so special? Tststs...

I honestly believe that if you don't show appreciation for your mother all year round there's really no need to start doing that on a special, official holiday.
That's just stupid.

Thank goodness you posted this thread. This reminds me, I still have to get my present for my mother!

last I heard (which was like in elementary) we had to learn the date that the government made it an "official holiday" so I didn't know if they celebrated anything like it other places (I don't keep track of holidays in other countries often)
also, I do think that you should treat your mom well year round, but yeah, we like presents and stuff too.

Card: Outside reads, "A good mom lets you lick the beaters" (with a picture of a mixer making cake batter or something), and the inside reads, "A great mom turns off the mixer first."
Flowers: a bundle of blue iris, her favorite flower.
DVD: The first season of Murder, She Wrote, one of my mom's favorite shows back in the day.

It's true that many only show their appreciation on Mother's Day, but not everyone. I live with my mom, so I get a chance almost every day to show my appreciation for her, even with something as simple as having a cup of tea ready when she gets home from work. Heck, it's the LEAST I could do after all she went through, raising me! :p
Mother's day. Yeah, we have it in Australia this Sunday. Yet another consumerist incentive deal to encourage unnessacary spending but creating a percieved obligation. Which reminds me, I better pop down to the store and pick her up something.

I cut down a pair of trees and dug up the stumps with my brother for my mam.

Well, in Germany, Mother's day got a lot of attention during the 3rd Reich (which made it an official holiday here), so its history is to be regarded a little bit ambivalent.
And I will be visiting home this weekend and yes, my Mami will get some flowers or whatever she wants; she reads 3 times as many books as anyone else I know.
You know, I just feel it's stupid to overemphasize such a date. That's like your hubby only caring for you on your wedding day.

We even have Mother's day here in the Third world. The big problem for me is that my mother lives in the UK and mother's day there is on a different Sundy to the rest of the world, so I never remember it.

I mostly send my Mom stuff on Mother's Day because it bugs the hell out of her. I'm sure that when I call her on Mother's Day the first words out of her mouth will be, "Why on Earth did you send flowers? Don't you know the florists jack up prices on these phony holidays? Did I raise you to be a chump?"

That's exactly the way I see it (although I've moved out quite some time ago).
