I can see so many different things happening with this... I guess Hinduism is going to be the new religion of the moon-men!

Be careful. I became a racist honkey by saying things like this.

The nice thing about becoming a racist honkey is that it can't happen twice.

I think...

Well it just happened it me. I'm not sure how I feel about being a honkey let alone a racist one. It's a bit of an odd feeling. One minute you're typing stuff on the internet, the next you're a racist honkey. Well, I guess there's nothing else for it than to go and put a concrete aboriginal in my yard now.

This is nothing. It's still just a probe. Has India even put a man in space yet?
The Chinese are much closer to putting a person the moon than India is.
Unless India hitches a ride with NASA but they said that won't be for at least another 8 years.

It already is!

As brahman is the ultimate reality(tm), the moon-men realised the unity of atman and brahman (ayam atma brahma) once they crossed the ocean of suffering described in the Chandogya Upanishad.

I guess you haven't met any moon-men. Nice people, but don't stare at their feet.

No offence to the Indian people, but if their rockets are anything like their cars they'll probably end up studying the Sahara...

No, not by themselves, but I seem to recall an Indian being part of a space shuttle mission.

Yeah, Indians have been in space. Nasa has taken up at least one. Somewhere, I heard that one Indian even walked on the moon, but I can't be sure. I doubt if NASA would allow other countries rides to the moon on their equipment.

You mean Indians like, "This is not a reading library, my friend. Put down the magazines or I'll blow your head off, my friend."

Or do you mean, "We smokem peace pipe and lite with $100.00 white man's bills as white man throw away pension on blackjack table."

One of the moonwalkers was an Amerindian, if I recall correctly. But they were all US citizens.

I read it on CNN, but I've just always wanted to use that line and this was a good opportunity.

No. There was a joint operation with the Soviets sometime in 80s when Rakesh Sharma became the first Indian in the space. And then there is the tragic case of Kalpana Chawla (Indian-American) who died in the shuttle mishap coupla years ago.

But other than that, in the area of launching unmanned satellites (mostly for remote sensing), India is quite advanced. India has also mastered the re-entry process. ISRO is launching many satellites of other countries too nowadays and they are very cost effective too.

No offence to the Indian people, but if their rockets are anything like their cars they'll probably end up studying the Sahara...

Really. Their success rate tells me something else.

The Indian space program is designed for the Indian peoples needs at this time (not some star war thingies...) and they are doing it very well, thank you.

Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)

Developmental flights completed with successful third developmental launch in March 1996.

Now available for launching 1,000-1,200 kg class of remote sensing satellites into polar sun-synchronous orbit. IRS-1D launched on September 29,1997.

IRS-P4(OCEANSAT) and two small satellites (KITSAT of Korea and TUBSAT of Germany) launched on on May 26,1999 by PSLV-C2.

PSLV-C3 launched three satellites -- Technology Experiment Satellite (TES) of ISRO, BIRD of Germany and PROBA of Belgium - into their intended orbits on October 22, 2001.

ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C4 launched KALPANA-1 satellite on September 12, 2002.

ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C5 launched RESOURCESAT-1 (IRS-P6) satellite on October 17, 2003.

ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C6 launched CARTOSAT-1 and HAMSAT satellites on May 5, 2005.

Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV)

For launching 2,000 kg class of communication satellites into geosynchronous transfer orbit.

A three stage vehicle; first stage is a 129 tonne solid propellant core motor with four liquid propellant strap-ons with 40 tonne propellant each, second stage is a liquid propulsion system with 37.5 tonne propellant and a cryogenic upper stage with 12 tonne of liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen.

First developmental flight GSLV-D1 completed with successful launch on April 18, 2001.

Second developmental flight GSLV-D2 launched GSAT-2 satellite on May 8, 2003.

First operational flight of GSLV (GSLV-F01) and the third in the GSLV series launched EDUSAT satellite on September 20, 2004.

It is actually the other way.

Moon - Chandiran / Chandr - that's where you get a lot of Indian names like Chandrasekhar including the famous physics nobel winner with that name - is already a god (rather a deva), it is one of the 9 heavenly bodies (nava graha)that influence our life. The movement of the moon is an important factor in Indian astrology and horoscopes..

The person on the left working with the rocket is none other than the current Indian president Dr Abdul Pakir Jalaludeen Kalam.

Ahhh, there's nothing like seeing old black and white photos like that to remind me of my history books. And I hated history :p

Kinda surreal though seeing the rocket cone being moved on a bike like that.

No no no! You cannot become nor quit being a racist honky. It isnt a choice anymore than sexuality is. It is hardwired in and cannot be changed

I trancend genetics. The title Racist Honkey was bestode upon me last night when someone wanted to know why I had spelled "come" as "comb." I said I was quoting someone with a Puerto Rician accent and lo and behold the mantle of racist honkey was given unto me. It is a heavy burden to carry, especially for someone who meets Hitler's definition of Jewish.

I feel your pain brudduh.

Anyway back on track.

Congrats to India for coming so far and so fast with their space program.

I hope they do indeed invest even more time and energy into it.
