Lovebot Issues

A few days ago, a thread came up on the latest Korean android. One NS poster observed that Japanese androids have gone further. Check out their progress in the link below.

http://www.kokoro-dreams.co.jp/indexj.htm

I thought that was coolness supreme, but my co-workers have surprising negative reactions to it. One guy was like "what's the point" and two found it "disturbing"!

WTF? Was I the only guy anxiously awaiting the appearance of lovebots on the market. Or do people have issues with lovebot lovin'. Dammit.

Two simple question should clear this up:

1. Do you masturbate?

2. Wouldn't you prefer to have sex with a hot bot instead?

If a man answers no to the first question, 95% of the time he's a liar, so his response to the second question is irrelevant.

If he answers yes to the first question but no to the second question then he is obviously kinky. Or possibly just scared the robot will clench it's steel thighs and rip his dignity right off.

Trust me, there are plenty of people in this world who do stuff much worse than have sex with a robot. Weird won't even slow them down. And then there's the fact that parents will be buying them for their teenagers to stop them catching diseases and makeing babies and so they won't get distracted from study. As soon as parents realize that their kid having a sexpot sexbot means they can get into a better school, they'll catch on real quick. I can imagine mothers saying, "Stop chasing girls! What do you think I bought you a sexbot for?"
"Aww Mum!"
"Don't you aww Mum me! No go screw your sexbot and then finish your homework!"

I imagine lovebot lovin' to be a more discrete affair though.

hmm taking a while to buffer... while it does i'll smugly consider robot pr0n... :P

though in answer to the question: no. not unless it was made or plastic or something - i mean, can you imagine how much a robot would weigh?! having that throwing its weight around while you're trying for the fuck of the century could easily be painful (and lead to broken pelvises  :p)

and for another thing... having sex with something that doesn't feel anything, has no pleasure in it, or just has pre-programmed responses of "ooh ahh. yes. baby." would hardly be endearing to me... why not just fuck a melon and look at porn?

Man, my little story here reminds me of this Darwin awards winner. He would stick his prick in between two electric sanders (without the paper, of course), and get off. Well, one time, his jism completed a circuit between his sanders.

I imagine this is why it would be a sex robot rather than just a sex doll. People will take them to movies and dinner. People will have converstions with them. Many people will find robot relationships better than relationships with real people and many people will find it better than these people are having relationships with robots instead of trying to have relationships with them.

You mean that if the lovebot was hot enough and real enough and was well programmed (and kept updated by Kokoro!) for stimulating conversations that you could...could... fall in love with a robot? Heavens NO!

Actually it's been done. This reminds me of a short film about a man who leave his real girlfriend for a plaster mannequin.

In Japan they now have sex doll call girls. I'm not sure exactly how it works. Do a couple of cheerful elderly delivery men jog in with a silicon sex doll in their arms?

"Uss! Uss! Horrr, sugoi! Gambatte!"

Then they toddle out and have a smoke while you get it on? Anyway, sexbots aren't too behind and there is a huge market waiting for them.

Meh, I calls it like I sees it. I've encountered plenty of people who want a "lovebot" in the bedroom, and they are universally bad lovers. If somebody wants a human-shaped masturbatory aid, I would rather they not try to use another human being for that purpose.

Not really. Like I said, it would be good for these people to have a non-human option for their desires. I don't have a problem with them wanting a sexbot. I only have a problem with them treating other HUMAN BEINGS as sexbots. If they can get a robot to play with, everybody wins.

I think you are misunderstanding my feelings on this subject. In all likelihood, if a sexbot was economically feasible for me, I would probably own two of my own (one male, one female). Mostly because I would want to breed a race of super cyborgs for my own personal army, but I also would probably try getting jiggy with them from time to time.

I wouldn't be bothered if a guy or girl wanted to use a sexbot. I would be bothered if somebody called their sexbot a "lovebot," because it implies that there would be some kind of emotional relationship between the individual and their sextoy. I would not date a guy who professed real love for his blow-up doll, or a girl who claimed to be in a romantic relationship with her dildo, because I don't date people who are unable to distinguish between love and sex. I think it's also stupid to market these as "lovebots," because the robots would obviously not be capable of love, and because it further perpetuates the idea that love and sex are the same thing. Call a sex toy a sex toy, I say.

Actually this brings up deeper issues. :(

I for one has trouble seeing the distinction between love and sex. I don't have sex with people I don't love. I don't fling, only had long-term relationships with women I love and trust. I know you won't provide a cookie for this, but it's nothing about moral code or religion or stuff like that. At the emotional level I just can't separate love and sex.

If I love a woman deeply I will have sex with her. If I have sex with a woman I will love her. Don't ask me what comes first... :)

I have a feeling that a lot of people will program their sexbots to act something like human beings. Many people will probably enjoy the challenge of turning on their sexbot as if it here human.

As for feeling love for it, sexbots will probably be programmed to elicit love if that's what people want. A few phermones, some deep meaningful looks. It may not be as difficult as we might like to think.

And I don't think you're a bad person for that, nor do I think you're abnormal for feeling that way. I think the majority of people feel much the same way, in that they cannot separate romantic love and sex. Personally, I find that to be a dangerous and unappealing state of mind, but there are plenty of other people who think that I'm a sick freak or a pervert because I don't merge sex and love in my mind.

If I love a woman deeply I will have sex with her. If I have sex with a woman I will love her. Don't ask me what comes first... :)
Well, see, I find that kind of attitude a lot more alarming than somebody owning a sexbot. The main reason I would be concerned about "lovebots" is because they might exascerbate this problem; people would further confuse love and sex, and would end up believing it is possible to love something/someone simply because you've had sex with it/them. More importantly, the sex isn't even mutual. So sex/love are construed as a form of self-gratification, with the other individual's pleasure being totally irrelevant.

I think we are all overlooking the most important concern:

Sex is rarely simple, regardless of whether or not love gets into the mix.

On the other hand I find your clinical separation of love and sex hard to imagine.

Why do you assume that separating love and sex must be clinical? Sexual contact can occur between individuals who love each other, and it can occur between individuals who do not love each other. This is reality, and I don't see why it is "clinical" of me to notice reality.

Are you one who would believe in wholesome kind of sexless "love" that the religious are inclined to give cookies for? ;)
I think love can take many forms. I love many people in my life, and I love each of them in a different way. (No, that is not as kinky as it sounds)

I love my little brother. I love my close friends. I love my mentor. I love my romantic partner. My level of physical contact is different with each individual person, and the physical contact has different meanings with each of them. For example, if my mentor shakes my hand it is a very emotional and intimate gesture. On the other hand, my brother and I hug all the time, so a hand shake would be odd and distant-feeling.

Sexual contact is one way that I can express love for a person, but it is not the most important way. Sexual contact can also be an activity that has nothing to do with my love for a person. My lover and I will sometimes "make love," but sometimes we just boink like bunnies. Sex does not always have to mean the same thing, even if it is between the same two people.

I do not believe "sexless love" is any more or less innately wholesome than any other kind of love. It all depends on the people and situations involved.

Well, the sex toy industry isn't exactly floundering is it?

Two simple question should clear this up:

1. Do you masturbate?

2. Wouldn't you prefer to have sex with a hot bot instead?

Yes and yes, respectively. Seems like it would be fun, at least to try once. Although I am a lady...do they have male lovebots or a female one equipped for female use? If it's just for guys, then I am mad.

Current models of Kokoro androids are all female, but none of these are really lovebots. If lovebots do get developed I'm sure they would think of the ladies too, like RealDolls for example.

Female lovebots equipped for female use would be just an accessory add-on, methinks. :D
