Bush's Best Day in Office

His words, not mine: (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12683890/)
BERLIN - President Bush told a German newspaper his best moment in more than five years in office was catching a big perch in his own lake.

"You know, I've experienced many great moments, and it's hard to name the best," Bush told weekly Bild am Sonntag when asked about his high point since becoming president in January 2001.

"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5-pound perch in my lake," he told the newspaper in an interview published Sunday. Bush said the worst moment was Sept. 11, 2001, when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.
Subsequent reporting has revealed that "perch" was apparently a bad translation, and that he actually caught a bass that size. (This came out because the world record for perch is just above 4 pounds.)

So, not "liberating" Iraq, not driving out the Taliban, not capturing Saddam Hussein, not even getting re-elected--nope, his best day was the day he caught a somewhat large fish in his personal pond.

We are so fucked.

Clinton: the resolution of the kosovo crisis
Bush: that time i caught a big fish on my ranch

I actually, I think he may be telling the truth. Catching that fish is the best thing he's done.

You got to this just before i did, apparently.
Of the extremely few successes he ACTUALLY had, his angle was something he could (and should) have done as a regular citizen, or even a rich and privileged one .... but no, IN STANDING OF THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
It occurred to me that his answer is DIRECTLY IN LINE with the perspective of someone who really WASN'T making the decisions and taking the consequences for it. La la land wasn't an escape, it was the land he never left.

To me it really shows just how fundamentally unserious he is about anything, and that's tragic, because he has the power of life and death over men and women.

Agreed, sadly.
It's not like we weren't given a hint or two ...

You're right, anyone with even a modicum of power should not be allowed to tell jokes or make ironic comments.

:(Or this, (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3570845.stm) perhaps?
One pictured Mr Bush looking under a piece of furniture in the Oval Office, at which the president remarked: "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere."

After another one, showing him scouring the corner of a room, Mr Bush said: "No, no weapons over there," he said.

And as a third picture, this time showing him leaning over, appeared on the screen the president was heard to say: "Maybe under here?"

You should really get to work on finding excuses for the president's more serious errors.

You know, it's important to keep perspective on your statement, given how little time he actually spends in office ... think about all the "vacation" time.

I won't try to, I think he's done a poor job. That said, I think a thread criticising him on the basis that he was pleased that he caught a big fish is a tad lame and mindlessly partisan.

Do you agree with President Bush that his catching a 7.5-pound perch is the high point of his presidency so far?

Yes, everything else he's done pales in comparison.

No, be serious -- the man has accomplished great things.

Ummm, I think something got lost in translation.

Yes, but that's nothing compared to shooting a lawyer in the face.

I don't know -- this administration keeps everything so secret that it's hard to make comparisons.

Bush Jokes About Best Moment As President
WASHINGTON - President Bush says his best moment in office was the time he caught a 7 1/2-pound largemouth bass.
...
Bush admitted it was not easy to pick a best moment because "I've had a lot of great moments," according to a transcript of the Friday interview released Sunday.
"I would say the best moment was when I caught a 7 1/2-pound largemouth bass on my lake," Bush said, laughing.

As for his worst moment - obviously it would have to be 9/11. Those bastard terrorists interrupted him reading 'My Pet Goat' - Bush never got the chance to find out how it ends.

Maybe I can re-energise this thing.

Down with Bush! He is a stupid dookyhead that thinks catching fish is fun.

What a dim-glo and evil-doer type president.

A pox on George Bush for saying catching a 7 pound bass is good.

Fish have feelings too you stupid eevul president, they are just subtle about them.

OK that should fix the mood.
