E3 Game Convention.

As porbably anyone who devotes even a small amount of their time to gaming knows, the E3 gaming convention is 5 hours (US Mountain) away from starting. Some of my friends are already watching the pre-showings.

So far, there have been teaser trailers for : Gears of War, Hitman: Blood Money, God of War II, and rumors of a Halo:Forerunners preview.

Also discussed are the preformance capabilities of the PS3 and whatever the hell if going on with the Nintendo Wii.

My biggest pick at the moment is that the Wii tent will draw the largest crowd, seeing as it is probably the wierdest system to be introduced in any gaming history.

Other than that, I think the hardcore PS fans will of course be at the PS3 stage, looking for the new capabilities, but another larges chuck will go right to the Xbox stage to try and get a look at all of the new titles being released for the 360 that has so far failed to yield a massive title.

Comments, complaints, rumors, ideas, things to look for/are looking forward to?

Halo 3
Spore
MGS 4
Ghost Recon 3
Lego Star Wars II (the first one was hilarious, so the second has to be great)
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Tomb Raider: Legend

And, I have a theory, now that they have gotten all that free publicity for changing their console's name to something inane, the Wii will be renamed the Revolution just before it comes out, after all, you can't buy the kind of publicity a name change brings about.

Ouch, $500-$600. Who's gonna pay that?

Looks like they decided to stick with the DualShock layout. Bad move; the controller is the one thing I hate most about PS3. Also, motion sensor? Where have I heard that before...?

Sony continues in its typical ways of unoriginality and total lack of innovation. I don't see this console going well for them.

I'm also really looking forward to Medieval Total War 2. RTW kinda spoiled all other RTS games for me- DAMN YOU, ACTIVISION- because after seeing 6000 troops fight it out Age of Empires III's puny skirmishes of 50 men aren't particularly interesting. So it'll be good to see more huge-scale goodness. I'm not sure if it'll make a showing at E3 though. The new C&C should be good too. Wish I could go to E3 :(

Yeah, Dirge of Cerberus has a lot of good hype, but it's not really my style of game, so meh. Remake of FFVII doesn't strike me as being that important, either. Don't fix it unless it's broken, and all that.

Looks like they decided to stick with the DualShock layout. Bad move; the controller is the one thing I hate most about PS3.

It must be a matter of personal preference, because I think the PS2 controller was far and away the best controller of the previous generation systems. XBox was a horror, and Gamecube was only really well suited to certain games.

Sony continues in its typical ways of unoriginality and total lack of innovation. I don't see this console going well for them.
I certainly don't think a lack of innovation is the problem for Sony. Rather, I think they've made a couple of serious mistakes in marketting this new system. For one thing, releasing the next Final Fantasy on PS2 instead of on the PS3 is going to hurt...if they co-released the PS3 with a brand new Final Fantasy, their sales would easily dwarf all other systems. Hell, I know people who would buy the PS3 for no reason other than to play a new FF, even if the PS3 cost $750.

I also think they might be in trouble releasing around the same time as the Wii. Wii is cheaper, more attractive to many casual gamers, and definitely a more attractive buy for parents or relatives shopping for a child's holiday gift. PS3 is going to have to offer some serious titles to rope in buyers, and I'm not sure they're offering enough right off the bat.

I think releasing FFXII for PS2 was pretty shrewd. Sony probably didn't think they could release the PS3 in time to compete with the Xbox 360, so they left they're current cutomers with incentive to hold on a little longer. Along with the second God of War title, it will keep the Sony fans from switching to Microsoft. Besides, Gamespot has been showing screens from FF XIII, which will be released on the PS3, and it looks fantastic.

Remember, Sony has both a new Metal Gear and FF title in the lineup. Wii hasn't landed anything new that I've heard about, and if the Gamecube's library is any indicator, the only good series on the Wii will be a Mario. Nintendo suffered this entire last generation from a lack of good titles and the Wii hasn't shown anything better, IMO.

Good points. To each his/her own I guess. I for one would never shell out that much cash for a console, even if I did care for the games it had (the only game really interesting me is RE5, and I'm holding out for a Wii port). Especially considering the fact that European fans are, as usual, screwed over by the company. They seem to believe that $=€ so they set about the same digit price for both, even though euros are worth like 20% more.

I have a number of games on PS2 that I enjoy, but none that I absolutely love. I just have a really hard time getting some fun out of PS2 games, and I blame the controller a great deal. Why is the primary control stick in such an awkward position? Does it really need all those buttons? The only PS2 game I really love is Guitar Hero, and it has a special controller.

The Wii will be presented at E3 today, and I really look forward to it. It will most likely be the only new gen console I buy. At the very least it will be more affordable, and I like how the controller and games are looking so far.

Hmm..... E3. I could care less about the PS3. I seriously doubt I'll buy one. Halo 3 could be cool, but though I enjoyed the first 2, they didn't change my life. if someone was to make a surprise announcement about KOTOR3, that'd be cool.

I hope there's something on medieval 2, and fangirl-me wants a halflife 3 announcement. But... yeah, right. it took them 5 years to announce HL2.

And naturally any Spore news could be good news. Unless he eats it - but I'll hold out to hope.

Eh? I think you're uninformed here. Based on what (little) has been revealed for the Wii, I haven't even *seen* a Mario title yet. The GC had lots of great titles: RE4, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, and let's not forget the most anticipated of all: Zelda. Many of these games will no doubt find their way onto the Wii. The game people are looking forward to most is probably the sequel to Super Smash Bros. Melee, which IMO is one of the most fun games ever created on any console.

I have a number of games on PS2 that I enjoy, but none that I absolutely love.

Again, it's a matter of personal preference. I have yet to encounter a single Xbox-exclusive game that I am even remotely interested in playing, since most of their interesting stuff is available on PC or something else. PS2, on the other hand, opperates most of the games I like playing, and also has several exclusive games (like FF) that I really dig.

Maybe it has to do with handedness, or with hand size, or something like that. I feel like the PS2 controller is very natural and fits my hand really well. It also might have to do with the types of games people like to play, and how you like to move around in a game.

Yeah, Nintendo really carries a lot of very popular exclusive titles, and I think that is their biggest advantage. No matter how kick-ass the PS3 will be, it's still not going to have the nextgen MarioKart or Zelda or Super Smash Bros., and those are titles I would hate to pass up.

I definitely agree there. Up until recently, I had 1 game for the PS2 and was considering getting rid of it, because it hadn't been used in literally a year. But then I started to play some of the RPGs (it really has the edge here in my opinion) like Lucifers Call, and now it's my most played console. And X-boxers might point out KOTOR, but since that's not x-box exclusive, I could just get it on my pc.

I think so. But I also think it depends on where you PUT your hands. The X-box controller is my favourite (the old, huge one) because for me it feels most like a mouse/keyboard combo with a few ergonomic differences. But yet people complain that it's HUGE, and too big for their hands. My hands are absolutely tiny, and it fits perfectly. I have more problems with the PS2 and Gamecube controller.

I'm most curious about the Wii, right now. I feel like I know what to expect from the PS3, but those wacky Nintendo folks have kept me guessing a bit more.

Definitely. Though I'm worried it's going to be a disaster, I'm glad they're doing something original. I'd hate for this to go badly for them, because it'll only show that gamers just want the same stuff recycled - and that's all we'll get. (obviously it won't be nintendos fault, and I defy anyone to say that PC developers haven't actually really hit a peak of quality they've never hit before, X3,Halflife 2, Rome total War, Rise of Nations, FEAR, and the like, but I do see the tendancy to replicate increasing - as an obvious example, 3/5 games I quoted there are sequels.)

I'm looking forward to both the Wii and PS3, though Madden Wii really caught my interest when I read about it on Gamespot.

Maybe that's true. I never could find a comfortable way to hold the Xbox controller, myself, but I also didn't have that much chance to experiment with it since I didn't particularly like any of the games for that system.

I'm worried for Nintendo, too. I really really want them to make piles of money so they can keep goofing around, because every now and again they hit on something that is just painfully brilliant. I really hope the Wii doesn't end up bombing.

What? Are you crazy? The only difference is memory. Yes it is a 100 dollar more than Xbox 1.5 but it is definitly worth it since the cheaper version of Xbox1.5 doesnt even have a hard-drive. And cmon have you seen the Wii game line-up, mediocore at best.

That's an unusual way to describe it...

Care to explain?

The MGS4 trailer is a beautiful thing...only compounded that they are going to release a 15 min. trailer later tonight at the Konami Press Conference.

That blew me away, I did not expect Solid Snake to kill himself.

But man, too Human, Resistance: Fall of Man, SPORE, Halo 3, It was all "Volcanic."

I loved the short they had on G4

Sony Guy comes out and Nintendo Guy come out. They stare each other down and then Sony Guy pulls out the controller and produces a knife blade from it. Nintendo Guy pulls out his controller, hits a button, and a lightsaber blade is produced. Then Microsoft Guy steps forward, and he has two X-Box's stuck together with a long pole, and each is covered in spikes. Nintendo guy calls out Link and Mario, Sony Guy calls out Solid Snake and Kronus, and Microsoft guy calls ou and brings the Master Chief in a Pelican. Then the fight is on.

You should all buy three Wii's, and name them Oui, Wee, and Whee.

I am utterly tickled by this idea.

Now I must go rob a liquor store to pay for my trio of Wiis...

The game lineup.

Exitetruck and Project H.A.M.M.E.R looked nothing special but Mario Galaxies alone has my interest piqued.

For me, it's also about the games that you know are inevitable. Whether or not they've announced the titles, you KNOW that Nintendo is going to continue with their most popular lines. It's only a matter of time. Maybe that would be a reason to wait to purchase the Wii, I suppose, but eventually you'd still end up getting the system if you really enjoy the popular Nintendo-exclusive game lines.

Dude, the new Mario game looks awesome, as does Zelda. With that new controller, I can't wait to be able to swing the controller and watch Link swing his sword. It will be so cool.

Looks like Sony has revealed their PS3:

http://www.gamespot.com/e3/e3story.html?sid=6149470

Ouch, $500-$600. Who's gonna pay that?

Looks like they decided to stick with the DualShock layout. Bad move; the controller is the one thing I hate most about PS3. Also, motion sensor? Where have I heard that before...?

Sony continues in its typical ways of unoriginality and total lack of innovation. I don't see this console going well for them.

+1,000

http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/technology/archives/2006/05/10/playstation_3s_specification_cuts_raise_concerns.html

When 1up's editor is publicly admitting his concern (given his editorship of the official US Playstation magazine), things can't be looking too perfect.

Added to the fact the graphics aren't really significantly better than the 360, in a situation where graphics sells so much to the mainstream market, and I don't think this is going to perform well. After all, Microsoft lost billions on the Xbox, and they were offering a better unit for an equal price. Aside from brand, a large amount of Sony's advantage came that time from getting to market first. Even worse for them, they don't have a significant advantage title quantity this time around.

I'm not interesting in a console, at any rate, but I have far less love for Sony than for Microsoft.

I'm assuming when you say the only difference is memory, you mean between the PS3 varients. Firstly, it's hard drive space, not memory. Secondly, you're wrong. The cheaper system:

also lacks a media-card slot, Wi-Fi and the HDMI port for an HDTV

Yoshi's Island 2-Wooooooooh. I love YI.
Starfox DS. Wooooooh. Flight only. OMG Woooooooooohhh!!!111oneoneone online multiplayer-Do I have to even say it?
disappointments:
PS3 price. No, Ken Katarugi(did I spell that right?), I refuse to get another job.
Solid Snake in a Super Smash Bros. game kinda defeats the whole purpose of SSB.

Sakurai said the decision to include Solid Snake when Hideo Kojima himself practically "begged" to include the Metal Gear character in the last Smash Bros.

Blame Kojima? Where's the problem?

I have always found the name 360 odd, doesn't the imply that they have just gone in a circle and not gone anywhere new? Wouldn't a better name be the Xbox 180?
