Thread-slaying: For Good or Ill?

I like to kill threads on occasion. Sometimes a thread is just so bad that it needs killing, and I'm essentially providing a service to the forum by doing so.

The problem is, I sometimes kill threads accidentally. I will ruin a perfectly good thread without thinking...a damn shame.

Any other thread-slayers out there?

And how many thread-killers does it take to defeat a thread on abortion?

Uh oh...is this thread going to end up like the "post of death" thread?

How did the "post of death" thread end up?

Spam. And while you're at it, take out the Population Decline thread, eh? I'm willing to make it...worth your time.

It's in spam right now, if you care to check. People are still posting in it and keeping it alive.

Hmmm. The Population Decline thread...that one would be interesting to kill.

Well, go and kill one then: show us how it's done.

Now, now. I don't kill threads to show off. It's either that the thread needs to die and an opportunity to kill it presents itself or it's an accident.

Well, there are plenty of ways to kill threads, but one of the more effective ways is to post a statement that is formed in such a way that one can neither agree or disagree with it.

I can kill threads outright, but I much prefer to hijack them and mutate them into a discussion of something completely unrelated to the original topic.

how do you kill threads?Presumably by spamming them in an interesting way that gets people talking about what you posted and not the thread topic at hand.

That's not killing. That's hijacking.

That's not killing. That's hijacking.Yes, but then what would happen is that the spam topic is only interesting for a little while; long enough to get everyone to stop talking about the original topic, but not long enough that people maintain the thread. A killing through a hijacking.

Or, you could spam the thread to the point that it gets locked.

Fair 'nuff.
