Since a bit of a hijack debate is breaking out on this subject in the alighnment thread, I thought it might be nice to move this to another thread,

Is D&D/AD&D a good gaming system?
What do you think are it's faults and/or strengths?

I think the biggest problem it has is that it stops you from getting laid.

It's OK.

No system can ever cater to the desires and requirements of all players. Some want realism at the expense of playbility, others are more concerned with the smoothness of the game than the degree of acuracy in the statistics etc. D&D/AD&D chose a reasonable compromise between these factors. It worked well enough to become a phenomenonly popular system, so it had to have something going for it.

Hmmm... Seeing as I did get laid after I quit playing that system, but I still play RPGs, yes I'd say that's an argument against. ;)

Not always. A fellow player I dated was rather hot. She was strange but wow.....
