Ok so basicaly i hate microsoft. Their stupid computers never, ever, ever, work.
Im trying to un-partition my disks. So i backed up c and d, then i followed microsofts little book and delted the "Logical disk" [whatever that is] d. Then i deleted the partition D. It promptly stopped working and shut down, as most windows do. so i restarted and it worked. But now i have 166 GB of unallocted space and a 13 GB disk c. Seriously, who would put 166 gbs on a disk you cant use and then put 13 gbs on the real one? Its the stupidist idea ever. Only microsoft. But anyway, i cant seem to see any of the buttons their stupid guide says exists. I run the command prompt and it says i cna t expand disk c. Theres no way that i can see to make that space go to disk c. Does anyone know how to make it work?

If you are having problems working windows I would not recomend a change... but if you decide to switch there are a few *nix guru's on this forum

Seems to me that the problem is client-side...

Reformat the drive. You really shouldn't go around deleting partitions...

There is no apparent malfunction. It must be a human error.

What are you doing, Dave? This is highly irregular...

Seriously, just format the drive and you're good to go.

I think he has misspelled PEBKAC.

Perhaps he thinks it is "lies" instead of "exists", hmm?

Maybe you deleted something important, and may have to reformat, reinstall your OS, redo the partition, and then restore your backup.

Well, they're both fine, but the problem is that it is virtually impossible to say PLBKAC out loud, whereas PEBKAC is easily pronounced when speaking to other members of your technical support staff.

Microsoft doesn't make computers, nor does Microsoft usually partition drives - that's done by the manufacturer of the comp, or, if you built it yourself, by, well, yourself.

Somebody suggest Partition Magic. Go with that. Or with a Linux liveCD equipped with a graphical partitioner.

Switch to a Mac, like I do.

This site (http://www.stardestroyer.net/Mike/RantMode) can explain why Microsoft sucks donkey cock better than I can. Basically, they flood the marketplace with shitty merchandise and buy out superior competitors.

(Click on the left side, where it says "Microsoft." This guy is brilliant.)

No Microsoft is shit, but then arn't all mulitnational companies shit soooo I guess it's a moot point. As far the original poster goes, the reason that one partition is bigger than the other is that is the way whoever sold, built, installed your PC, made it, and far from being stupid it is a very good idea if you only have one HDD to partition it into two one of which should be much bigger(for data) the other much smaller(for OS) If you want to make it one whole partition then that means reformating your hdd and reinstalling your OS. If thats what you nedd go do , go do it, personaly I would live with the partitions you have and go out and by anothher HDD for data storage. Come on now installaing an extra Hdd is easery and less time consuming than re-building your 'puter huh!?

Assuming the d-disk was 166 GB that is exactly what should have happened based on the steps you took.

Well.. no. Putting your data and operating system on different partitions is in fact a pretty wise move. It makes it easier to upgrade, maintain and fix your system. Nor is it only microsoft; many popular unix and linux distributions use a similar system (e.g. putting /, /boot and /home on different partitions).
