Probably Northern Italian, in general terms. And I don't mean way up in the Alps, which is basically German-esque, nor would I necessarily include the Veneto region and others in the far northeast.

The problem in choosing is that the Italian cuisine is so fragmented...so regional...so local...right down to the city-town-village-cucina.

It's all good, though. Unbelievably good...

You think you'll like it? When are you having it?

I have too many favourite foods to list them all. Among those at the top of the list: lumpia (well, not all lumpia, just the way it's made in my family), crab, salmon (smoked or otherwise), crub, vol-au-vent, tofu, (green) mango, lefse, good fresh bread, honey nut cheerios, biltong, pizza (of the Italian variety), French brie, crepes, gyoza, sashimi, rosti, tzatziki, couscous, pineapple rice... I could go on and on.

These threads always make me hungry. :(

Out of curiosity, where are you from, and why are you looking for a halo-halo recipe? Or is it a specific recipe? I'm just wondering because when I try to describe halo-halo to just about anyone that isn't Filipino, no one ever wants to try it. Most of them think it sounds pretty gross, actually.

yeah, what can I say, the less your food has in it, the less food it is (or something that makes sense, you decide)

my kids' birthday cakes that I make for them are wheat free, rye free, barley free, oat free, nut free, egg free, lactose free, casien free, soy free, chocolate free carob cakes.

They taste like chocolate cake. (of course after I add the frosting they now have sugar, and fat, and lactose and casien, but I really only needed the gluten free, but you gotta go all the way I guess)

it's actually a mix, the top ingredient is tapioca flour and then a bunch of other herbs, it's actually sugar free too, as it's sweetened with stevia.

I am not really sure that it actually does taste like chocolate cake, it's been about 2 years since any of us have had any chocolate cake, so maybe it tastes like crap. However, the kids at both of their birthdays last year seemed to eat it fine, but I didn't tell them what was in it (or rather what wasn't in it)

Can't think of one favorite. I like ceviche, salmon, fresh tuna, steak-medium rare, artichokes, asparagus, lobster, shrimp, ...

I think the short list would work better - things I don't like - okra, black-eyed peas, catfish, crawfish, beef tongue, a god-awful Pennsylvania Dutch thing called head cheese that seems to be comprised of everything left over after sausage making, poi. Oh, and, while I like lamb in general, lamb the way the head cook of my guild at Faire makes it is vile.

Some newspaper article is where I heard it. The writer had moved to Australia for a few years and when asked to come over to a barbecue she brought hot dogs. When she got there everyone looked at her as if she had brought dog food or something.

The "brand" I use is actually local (this lady makes it in her outbuilding actually) but Cause you're special (http://www.glutenfreemall.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=78) makes a pretty good one (although it's rather expensive, it's $12 for a mix here) but it has chocolate and calls for eggs, however you can replace the eggs with apple sauce and it tastes the same.

Meatloaf is mostly homemade, I don't think I've seen places that sell it...

I can see the confusion. Barbeques are not where we eat hot dogs. Barbeques are mostly sausages and hamburgers or steak...

Also, what are rice crispy squares? :D

Absolutely wonderful, especially with coconut chutney.. :) I don't know how to explain the taste. You would have to try it yourselves.

There are many types of dosas. Roasts, paper roasts, masala dosas, butter dosas, karaikudi dosas, set dosas etc.

Visit a nearby south Indian restaurent. North Indian types usually don't make the best dosas.

Actually, if I HAD to pick, I would say the traditional Southern US foods are my favorites: Southern fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread with country butter, pinto beans with chopped onions, country ham, smashed 'taters with red-eye gravy and a huge, cold glass of buttermilk to wash it all down.

And some peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream for desert!

Mine varies wildly. Occasionally ,like yesterday for example I crave things that I normally dont like.

Yesterday it was a fried egg sammich with catsup. I normally only like eggs scrambled and without catsup at all. But I follow my cravings. It may be years before I want another fried egg sammich with catsup.

Two other things which I dont normally like but occasionally have big cravings for are oatmeal and coleslaw.

The best food of all:

REAL homemade icecream. NOT the half/half stuff. The kind that uses REAL cream, REAL eggs.
