Naturally, the poll is skewed.

I would have said something different. Thus, it's skewed. :D

One intriguing result was that Germans -- not renowned for their sense of humour -- found just about everything funny and did not express a strong preference for any type of joke.

Yay!

lol, one part of that artical cracked me up. The part when they said "Europeans also enjoyed jokes that involved making light of topics that make people feel anxious, such as death, illness and marriage."

None of them are actually funny.

I liked the Canadian's joke:

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300 Celsius.

The Russians used a pencil.

I like the Canadian one. I didn't find the Australian one funny at all.

The British and Belgian ones were funny. The American one was dumb as hell, the Canadian one was mildly amusing, but not as funny as the British and Belgian ones. The Australian one wasn't funny at all (in fact, it was so un-funny that I've forgotten it).

The "funniest joke in the world" rated a giggle anyway.

If I had to pick one, I'd say the Canadian one was the best, but none of them were particularly good. The idea that a single joke can be the funniest is absurd because to have a group of even 10 totally different people agree that a joke is amusing is difficult, even after dilluting a joke considerably. That's why Comedy Central often has Mad TV, The Daily Show, Carlos Mencia, and South Park in one day - few sane, sober people find everything funny.

The funny bit about the Canadian one is that its (mostly) true. Although the number is hyperbolized, its still more than the russians spent deciding to use a pencil in space.
