it probably fermented a little weird, since you know there was human flesh decaying in it.........
Rum is also my favorite drink :(

Wow, it's like a pulp short story by WJ Stamper titled Ti Michel in which a Hatian tavern owner confesses to killing the Gendarme who was hitting on his daughter and hiding the body in a big barrel of rum from which he serves the other cops their drinks.

Hmm....
Maybe it has a similar effect to the worm in tequila.
Rum has sufficent alcohol that it wouldn't decay, the article specifically says pickled.
That happened on this cartoon show of shitty urban legends once.
Except it was wine, not rum.

I don't know... how would I test that?
*is really thinking about it for homeschool purposes*
Snopes has some stories about this: http://www.snopes.com/horrors/cannibal/tapping.asp
It doesn't say whether it's true or not though.

not sure, but I was thinking that some of the body must have at least decayed where alcohol couldnt reach... or are ther places the alchohol couldnt reach? Alcohol molecules are small enough to soak thru most skin tissue, right?
I wish we could have seen a pic of how well preserved the body was after 20 years.
Aso, what does it really mean, when something is pickled? I thought pickling was done with vinegar.

it usually is, we made tequila pickles one year when I was about 10, my sister and I thought it would be an easy way to get drunk at VBS, turns out they were terrible, and we got very sick.

Drown a mouse in a bottle of rum or alternatively you could buy a bottle of Monte Alban Mezcal, pour it out (that stuff is so vile even I won't drink it), and see if the worm is rotted.

hehe, then you can try the pickling experiment - what a way to waste some good booze though - well, unless you drink it.

It would take too much alcohol to submerge him... he's a pretty tall guy.

Vacation Bible School, around here every church has one, it's a week long and you go to church everyday, they have a bible lesson, snack, craft, and a game. A lot of parents send their kids to as many as possible so they don't have to pay for day care in the summer, that's what our parents did. The church people probably did but didn't connect the smell to anything (since they didn't drink), I am teaching a week this summer, I am pretty sure none of my class will be drunk though. Our church has met with the other churches in the area and none of us are doing it at the same time so we will have the 5th week of kids passed around, which is easy for me since they will already know all the songs(there are new ones every year) but hard since they will be bored with the stories (which will be the same at most churches, we all use the same curriculum, hence the need/want to be drunk, makes church more fun)

No it wouldn't, alcohol is a preservative. They used to pickle VIPs in barrels of brandy, etc when they died on board ship.
