If there are any Swiss people on here who might help. I want to find a field guide for mushrooms in Switzerland for my bf for his birthday.

He's going there for grad school and he likes to take walks and find new mushrooms so I think it will be a good gift.

If there's an english or frensh language book that would be best, but he's learning german as well. I'm not sure how uniform the distribution of mushrooms is in Europe so I'm not sure if a general field guide for all of Europe would do.

This is all I could find:

Monnier, Georges and Regis Courtecuisse. Guide de Poche des Champignons. Lausanne, Switzerland: Delachaux et Niestle, 1991. 120p. ISBN 260300901X.

82 common species; key; color photos of mushrooms in natural settings; description includes edibility; in French. Also includes notes on the preparation of edible fungi and a table of confusing species. Pocket Guide to Mushrooms.

Is it a general mushroom guide or for European mushrooms? There isn't much of a description on the amazon site.

I dunno, I saw Switzerland so I shared that.

But now I found this at mushroomexpert.com (http://www.mushroomexpert.com/field_guides.html):

Gary Lincoff, editor (Giovanni Pacioni, author): Simon & Schuster's Guide to Mushrooms (Simon & Schuster, 1981). Although this field guide can be found in many stores, I do not recommend it for North American readers. It is a field guide to European mushrooms, edited and amended by Gary Lincoff. Buy Lincoff's other fine book (above), instead. While the Simon & Schuster's guide does include a few brief keys, its descriptions of mushrooms are very short--and the photos aren't even of North American mushrooms!

LInk to the book on eBay - http://product.ebay.com/Simon-and-Schusters-Guide-to-Mushrooms_ISBN_0671428497_W0QQfvcsZ1388QQpdqueryZSimonQ20andQ20SchusterQ27sQ20GuideQ20toQ20Mushrooms QQsoprZ301165

Awesome, I'm looking at that book on Amazon right now.

My only concern is that I know he's already got a mushroom book for Southern Ontario mushrooms and I hope that any other field guides will be different enough.
