The only downside to never having been a Catholic is that I'll never be able to be excommunicated :(
Well, it is an latae sententiae excommunication - the Vatican did'nt impose it, it is imposed automatically by the act of bishop consecration without Vatican's approbation.

Meh, I've been excommunicated on Medieval: Total War and I kicked the Pope's arse then ;) Looks like it needs another kicking.

When ever I play Italy I always get rid of the Pope ASAP. Yet he comes back like, every 25 years. And if I get excommunicated, I start a massive anti-crusade towards Rome and that Papal States. I get rid of everyone in my way. France, Germany, Spain, Britian, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Byzantium, Egypt, Morroco, Turks, Argonese, Hungarians, Sicilians, Swiss, whom ever. I will get the Pope's ass on a silver platter.

You do realize this is an inactive excommunication. They were auto excommunicated because of the law. The Pope didn't do it actively. I'm saying the Church should be more active in excommunicating heathens who claim to be catholics but are not practicing catholics or espouse religious doctrines that are contrary to Catholic doctrines.

Really? He declared 50 crusades against me, then I took the Papal States.
Problem was the fool kept coming back for more.

And a lot of those still pay church taxes. Highly unlikely that the Pope would risk that, especially since he's German.

Meh, using the tactic mentioned above I marched to Italy, took Rome, pillaged and burned. Then waited for him to come back then introduced him to a whole army of chivalric knights... oh the destruction was lovely...

As soon as I got gunpowder I started using it against him. Everytime he showed back up, even after the gunpowder was discovered, he never had gunpowder units so mine kept mowing the lawn with him. The only reason he kept retaking the Papacy was because I had my troops off fighting Russia. And I'd have to to move them back to Italy to retake the peninsula, with Russia taking over my eastern lands in the meantime.

If the excommunication of "south american leftists" was meant at me, I'm an occultist. The only one that can excommunicate me is... MYSELF. However, excommunicating people that break the 5th commandment could be an option, isn't it, mr. I-went-to-eyerak-to-kill-some-people?

No, no, no. If anyone else but Whit had made this remark, I'd not think that at all. However the guy took a recent pounding at my hands in his "let's make Venezuela into a military dictatorship like the one we made in Chile" thread, and is still resentful of that.

This is one of the reasons I hate the Catholic Church. It is an institution that specifically sets out to hinder free-thought.

Catholics can only excommunicate catholics. Mr. Let's Start A Fight Cause I'm Bored And Don't Have A Job has made a point of bringing up his anism, voodoo, occult whatever religion in every single thread he's been in.
Quite frankly I don't think anyone gives a damn that he's an occultist. This thread is about Catholics and excommunication, not occultists. If he wants to talk about occultism, he can start a seperate thread and not hijack yet another one of mine.
Now, I put that up to get opinions. Particularly from Catholics. I don't think any have posted in this thread yet.

This case its not the church hindering free thought, it's the Chinese government that ordained the bishops, and by carrying out orders of the government, the "bishops" ended up excommunicating themselves.
This is an example of the fact that China has no religious freedom. The government decides who is a bishop and who is a pastor, or a rabbi or an imam.

Oh, I was pointing that out due to your tendancy to pick fights with whoever disagrees with you. But I do have a job, which doesn't involve raping innocents, so I guess you don't care about it, and which requires university formation, so I guess you wouldn't understand it anyways. And you're not here to get other's opinions. QED your "let's hinder free speech and rip the Constitution" ideas.
Anyways.
For a guy that has a psychotic fantasy in which the US is the only country that matters, you're awfully concerned with what happens in China.
Well, I'm done here. Flame me if you wish, I'm ignoring you now, as fun as it has been to argue with you.

that's because what happens in China and in Venezuela and Iraq, and Mexico and other places, ultimately has an effect on freedom in the US of A. You can claim they don't, as some in the other thread claimed Venezuela had no effect on the US. Well, everyone said the same thing about Afghanistan upto the night before 911.

1. I'm not sure what is more idiotic than a non-Catholic calling for the Roman Catholic Church to excommunicate people. :headbang:
2. Castro was excommunicated already, bright eyes. On January 3rd, 1962.
3. You originally said that "North and South American liberals" should be excommunicated. You clearly know little of Catholic teachings (http://www.usccb.org/faithfulcitizenship/bishopStatement.html) regarding poverty, civil rights, immigration, the rights of workers, global solidarity, war, and other "liberal" positions. For example, should conservatives that disagree with the Church's support for affirmative action or that support the death penalty be excommunicated?

3.Further, some American bishops have already begun excommunicating American liberals. Because those liberals have adopted positions that contrary to the church's. For example abortion. American Catholicism has become different from the Catholicism of Rome.
