USA: what should be done with undocumented emigrants?

I say we should build a big wall to keep them in their place.

Let them go. They are leaving anyway. Or do you mean immigrants?

Has been proven to work in the 28 years that the German Democratic Republic did that with a high wall and those guns that fire by themselves (whatever they are called.)

I think we should force them to learn the language of the country they move to, and get special new ID cards. Those are always good. ;)

I don't know what we should do with people leaving the country. Let the emigrants do what they want. We shouldn't build walls to keep people in.

Unless you mean immigrants. I say enforce the border first of all, to keep the problem from getting any worse, then give all the illegal immigrants a year to show up before the INS and declare themselves. After that, impose heavy fines on businesses and deport everyone who's here illegally. Establish a guest-worker program that must be entered into with a payment, sort of a fine for immigrating illegally. Make it easier to come here legally, so that the temptation to cross illegally isn't so strong. Make illegal immigrants wait a few extra years before they can apply for naturalization, so they aren't jumping ahead of those already trying to be citizens. Also, they should be working and should learn to speak English and know of American culture and history, so that they aren't marginalized in society and are able to integrate. I'd give them a year to learn all of this, with exceptions (like for old folks and mentally challenged people).

This would protect the immigrants, give them a fair share to come and be in a land of opportunity, while stopping the violation of laws. Also, if the immigrants are coming legally, there will be fewer coming directly over the border, so smugglers will not have a smoke-screen and there will be more resources to catch them. Everybody wins, except for those with bad intentions.
