So says the article ( http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=domesticNews&storyid=2006-05-03T131141Z_01_N02301962_RTRUKOC_0_US-LIFE-WORK.xml&src=050306_1225_ARTICLE_PROMO_also_on_reuters).

"A full-time stay-at-home mother would earn $134,121 a year if paid for all her work, an amount similar to a top U.S. ad executive, a marketing director or a judge, according to a study released Wednesday."

Why don't women save themselves the trouble and just stop having kids.

That's such bullshit. They add together the pay of a cook, a childcare person, a cleaning lady, et cetera and say that a woman should get payed that much. Unfortunately, the cook and the cleaning lady, and the babysitter all get payed for doing that particular job for a full day. The stay-at-home mother only does each job doesn't do any of those jobs continuously for 8 hours or more a day.

I don't understand the part about chief executive though. In what sense I wonder.

"To reach the projected pay figures, the survey calculated the earning power of the 10 jobs respondents said most closely comprise a mother's role -- housekeeper, day-care teacher, cook, computer operator, laundry machine operator, janitor, facilities manager, van driver, chief executive and psychologist."

Plus I don't think they are factoring in the wages if they were just hiring illegal immigrants to fill these positions. Going all union is not the way.

surely I am worth more than that. on the one hand I like articles like that, makes people realize how much I work.... on the other hand, it's crap, if you wanted money you wouldn't be a stay at home mom, the hours suck, the pay stinks, but the benifits rock.

I think it would be higher if they did it that way.

If so then how the fuck is it that high? Some of those jobs should bring the average wage way down. For example, cooks, unless they work at really good restaurants don't make hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cleaning ladies don't either. Babysitters don't.

I mean, 10 jobs even with an average salary of $30,000 would still be a lot more than the number they came up with. So they must have totalled up hours of cleaning, and so on, not just added up each job as though they were all full time.

True. But it's doctored to make it that high. How much do cooks, babysitters and cleaning ladies make?

I'm not sure how the fuck it is that high. I would like to see the study if there was one. Still I imagine they would have divided up the day according to tasks and paid those hours according to the work done to reach the figure given.
Its too far away

"chief executive and psychologist." Chief executive doesn't even make sense and I hardly think that the average house mother would be able to make money as a psychologist.

It depends on where they work, and on the minimum wage laws. Minimum wage here is $6.50 an hour. Babysitters sometimes have subsidised rates but that only means that the government pitches in for part of their salary. So let's go with $6.50 an hour for the lowest paying jobs. I wonder if they factored in overtime hours, because I don't think they are calculating at 8 hours a day.

And yet they'd probably be more effective as a psychologist than most professionals.

remeber, part of the food she cooks, house she cleans, laundry, she washes, ect is her own too. Somthing she'd have to do if she was single as well.
