"Being as dumb as doorknob!"
Personally, I have never liked the EU, nor the UN. This just shows the stupidity in the EU's thinking.

"Let's not aim for closer relations with Serbia because these guy's wouldn't let us have a war criminal!"
So what if the Serbs don't want to hand over a war criminal? Does that mean you break off trying to get close to Serbia? The fools...

Discuss the EU's decision, and whether or not it was retarded.

It's not retarded. Like it or not, the EU is a major player in trade and such, and does have a bit of influence in the world. Not having closer relations with the war-criminal hiding Serbs is like a punishment. It doesn't really hurt the EU, but it hurts the Serbs.

Don't mess the the EU posse, they'll shank you.

So does that mean you are in favour of ignoring issues like war crimes, human rights abuses, genocide et al so long as business goes ahead?

Nice.

So does that mean that the EU can't have talks to stop those kinds of things from happening? Because that's what the EU seems to think.

Any progress on getting the genocidal fuck?

You know, Afghanistan was attacked for not surrendering Bin Laden. Serbia has merely been slapped on the wrist in comparison for not surrendering a war criminal with more deaths on his conscience.

For once, the EU does the right thing. They must be made to comply with international arrest warrants, or they will simply not be let into the EU.

I do think you'd see that Serbia's cosy ally, Russia, would have something to say about that.

That's one sensible decision of many that the EU has made.

And there is no stupidity in the EU's thinking. When the EU says they're not talking with you, that may very well include that they're not dealing with you. And that hurts, no matter who you are.

Handing over the war criminals to the International Court of Justice at the Hague is part of an agreement that Serbia has made with the EU to assure further talks. They haven't complied and it is only just that there should be consequences.

What's your problem with the EU anyway?

The EU has done the right thing here, lets just hope though that everything goes well and the talks can continue in the future. I'd hate to see serbia or any other balkan state left out of the union. Although, I don't see any of them (other than maybe croatia) becoming a member soon.

You don't like the EU? Wow, and I was beginning to warm up to you ;).

Honestly, as an American I think that the EU is a great body. I even wish these nationalistic pigs here would agree to allow make an American Union with like Canada and whoever else.

Intrestingly enough Fass, I wrote an eight page paper last night on Sweden's intrests in the EU. It was a really good time. :)

Why do you dislike it so much? I mean at some levels it does sort of cut away at national sovereignty, but it still does more good than harm, no?

Prior to the vote we were going through a bit of a huge economic crisis and a very, very slight majority let themselves be duped by the fear mongers who went all "without the EU, Santa will no longer want live in Sweden and we will all be damned to take care of those illegal pixies of his." Fast forward a decade, and those pixies are no longer considered pixies because EU regulations and such asphyxiating red tape state that they are "elves" because they are too tall to be pixies, even though they clearly still are pixies.

But Santa did profit by suckling at the EU teat, thanks to EU subsidies enacted in order to boost the Elvish minority, so they were right about something.

Hah, I am glad I can make you laugh. You see, I am in an European Politics class this semester, and of course we talk about the EU nonstop. The EU are much cleaver than the US when they deal with other countries. When America wants a country to listen to it, it threatens milliary action. When the EU wants a country to listen to it, it threatens to stop talking to them, thus meaning that the country in question would loose out on many many economic advantages. And there are more economic advantages in trading with the EU than trading with the US because the EU is the worlds largest single market.

Amusing then, that the USA should attack Afghanistan for not handing over a war criminal, while the EU just ceases talking to Serbia for not doing more or less the same.

The two are not alike and they're not always comparable.
