End of the American dream

Psychotic Military

As most or some of us have seen in the local or international news, we can only see one thing that has been put forward. That is " if russia and china vetto sanction 7 then nothing is going to happen with Iran". Well i guess all that propoganda about russia being a second rate country kinda falls into the local rubbish dump. hmmm kinda makes you wonder just how strong is that american way of life compared to the rest of the world. I guess when you dont have any sort of neighbours on any parts of your borders then you can be as arogant as you feel. But since all the countrys that have common borders and are a stone throw away from each other then things tend to get messy. :gundge:

I agree, when my children are my age, I don't want to see them out on the street because of Russia and China. If they want to use this as hipocrytical bullshit.. I say we nuke them.

Who said Russia was second rate?
They were going through a bit of trouble, but thats to be expected when you make such a huge change to your political and economic system. Russia being second rate is an old stereotype which started back in the 1850's 'cause Russia WAS second rate in the 1850's.
The Brits perpetuated it enough that it became 'fact', even long after it was no longer true.
This is not to say that the Brits are bad or anything, t'was perfectly normal behavior for a country in 1850 to gloat a lot, especially when you have to cover up some certain emberassing charges in certain places involving the Russians nearly crushing a certain brigade.
Before 1855 or so, Russia was considered THE world power, they had beaten Napoleon and saying they were second rate was just silly. The problem was that they got lazy and didnt bother to update their army with the times, so they went into the Crimean War using 1820's technology for the most part. Against things like rifled muskets, that was not a good idea.
That plus the Russo-Japanese War basically kept Russia a bit backwards while they tried to fix up their military and modernize with the rest of the world at the same time.
The Soviet Union of the 1920's was far from backwards. In the 20's Stalin actually did some pretty good things for the Soviets, although it did involve lots of people being worked and/or starved to death.
By the 50's, as we all know, the Soviets rivaled the US as a world power.
Then you get the 90's, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the collapse of the Russian economy, then the massive ressurgance, then another collapse. Now their economy is working its way back up, there was a story about how Gazprom is now rivaling the big US gas companies.

As to the US way of life being weakened...the US economy grew by %5 in the last year. %5 of the US economy is a huge number.

For the last part of your post...errr...we need to be arrogent with Mexico and Canada? We LIKE Canada (most of the time), and we treat Mexico like our mentally disabled little brother for the most part.

Woo, that was a fun tangent.

You wont be having kids though for like ten years, right?

To make sure you dont run afoul of age-of-consent laws, &c?

"End of the American dream"

Betting against America has never been a good idea. Our capacity for self-renewal is considerable.

News of our impending demise is greatly exaggerated. :)

I'm sure Rome was saying the same thing around 450 AD or so.

The problem is, the naysayers only need to be right once.

The American Dream is over - if you're not on the guest list, you're not getting in. Judging by the recent news coverage, it seems the poor huddled masses can get stuffed. :p

Hmmmm, no. The Rome of 450 AD was not a happy place, their economy wasnt growing by %5 per year and such ;)
Also, Rome continued for another thosand years or so until the 1400's when the Turks finnaly moved into Constantinople. And if that 'doesnt count', then Rome turned into the Papal states. So, basically Rome only started to suck around the 1910's or so.

My question would be, why do Americans think the "American way of life" is more valuable, valid, or superior to the rest of the world.

A way of life that is based on rampant consumerism, wasteful fiscal spending, and apathy and ignorance on political issues domestic and foreign, seems like a pretty weak way of life to me. I try to life my life very differently.

Do they? Possibly. Value is personal, up close. That being so, I would expect Americans to consider their own way of life as much more valuable than someone elses way of life.

Strong and right are NOT the same. The man who wins the fight didn't always deserve too and was not always right to begin with.
