The latest list of terrorist orgs by the US State dept is out. Surprisingly the taliban cannot be found in that list. Is this an oversight or an omission on purpose?

When the US State Department issued its annual Country Reports on Terrorism last Friday, it listed numerous state-sponsors of terrorism, like Iran, and groups it considers foreign terrorist organizations, like Hamas, Al Qaeda, and Hizbullah. Conspiciously absent from the lists, however, was the Taliban.

The actual list is here...

On another note, I do find Jamaat ud Dawa (a front for Lashkar-e-Toiba) mentioned, that is a small positive for me...

According to that list the neither the Provisional IRA nor any loyalist paramilitary organisations are terrorists.

Then again, according to the British government, neither are the Real IRA.

The US paid most of the Taliban to join the Northern Alliance in late 2001. They only really fought the few warlords who refused to rent out their allegiance. It is logical to assume this is one of the perks.

Well, the Taliban were an actual government after they came into power. They just happen to support terrorism.

If only people remembered what happened last time the USA tried that.

@ Kulikovo

It doesn't stop Hamas from being on that list.

Yeah, but they have no qualms about supporting, funding and employing the British Army, so we can see clear evidence that their opinions should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Why would you expect the 2006-list to be any different regarding the Taliban than the lists of 2001-2005?
