House of Represenatives for making a wall on Mexican/US boarder

Now we've all heard of these new immigration laws that congress wants to pass. Though the senate has drafted a friendlier, more reasonable bill, the House is actually considering building a wall, or even placing a mine field. The US DOES have a problem with the Mexican boarder and illegal immigrants, but a wall, really?

What I think:
Ok, we're already spending money on taking care of these immigrants anyway, but they are obviously coming here for a reason. Why don't we help fix the SOURCE of the problem, Central America and Mexico. I think that average american's don't know its right to live a poverty ridden life where you have no chance to make it in life. These people just want to feed their families and give their kids an education. Though I don't condone illegal immigration, and just letting them go scott free, kicking them out and building a wall will NOT solve the problem.

Indeed. It would probably be better to give aid to the central American countries so that they don't need to come over to the USA to have decent lives, in my opinion.

But then I imagine that American taxpayers would say "but they're still robbing us of our taxes!".

Kick out all the illegal immigrants and who's going to build said wall? (Thank you, Mencia)

Anyway, in the words of a man whose name I cannot remember: Only dieing empires build walls.

Give me a horde of mongols on horseback and I'll deal with that wall.

good thing the US government doesnt have to consider environmental laws. a wall or a minefield would never pass an environmental impact study

if we can hold this off until after the election it will blow over and we can start considering rational approaches to the problem.

If I was a terrorist I'd come through Canada. It's a vastly bigger security threat than the Mexican border. Which given how big a threat the Mexican/American border is should say something.

As for the immigration laws it won't help until they enforce the laws we already have on the companies that hire illegals. As long as it's profitable for the companies to hire them, they will. As long as it's profitable for Mexicans to come into this country, they will.

There's a place right here where I live that employs better than 1000 immigrants, our town has a population of only 12,000. It's not that Americans won't work there, it's just cheaper for them to hire illegals.

I really don't think things will change for a very long time, if not ever.

The only thing that makes me mad is the whole english thing.
Really, if you're going to live here, learn the language.
I rang up a lady (i work at a grocery store) and she spoke zero english.
I know little spanish, and tried to talk to her as best I could.
I even had to count her money for her.
She told me shes lived here for 7 years.

ugh.

Oh, I live in metro DC... big big hispanic population.

I'd heard that about a wall, but I never heard anything about a minefield! I'm anti-illegal, but even I would be against that!

The House is tossing it around.
At least, thats what I heard in AP Gov't today.
I really can't wait until elections... I really hope the democrats get more seats, I really do.

I'm a centrist, but the Republicans are really doing a shoddy job, in my opinion... not to mention the whole DeLay scandal and such.

Possitive.

where I live, its very very common.
Part of me thinks some of them really refuse to learn english.

Come visit Washington DC sometime, you will be amazed.

Children start first grade and dont know a lick of english.
Public schools in Montgomery County (where I live) have Esol programs for people that don't know english.

My mother works at the local hospital, and she has to read the spanish prompt to the patients almost half of the time because they know little to no english.

My mom once rented a house to some older Hispanics. They had been here awhile, and knew almost no English. We communicated through their kids, who did know English.
