I just got back from the demonstration and rally at the State capital. Pretty awesome. So much of downtown was litterally shut down. Thousands of people in the streets. Plenty of police around but I saw no violence whatsoever, cops actually looked pretty bored. I took a few shots with my camera-phone, if somebody will clue me to a good image hosting site maybe I'll post them later.
The demonstrators weren't all illegal aliens as some would have you believe, in fact they were probably a minority. One of the biggest cheers from the crowd was when a speaker mentioned that most of the people there were US citizens and voted. Although the majority were hispanic, I saw people of many ethnicities there.
One of the things that will stick in my mind was when I was as close to the steps of the capital as I could get with my bicycle, I noticed a grey haired man in a suit near me. He looked like your typical WASP. He was there with a little girl of maybe 9 or 10, could have been his daughter or maybe a grandchild. She was leading by the hand him through the crowd trying to get closer to the speakers. I thought it was so cool that this young child obviously wanted to be there and was dragging this adult along behind her.
