I am getting ready for a wedding. (I'm terrible with time, so I'm either very early or very late for things...I have erred on the side of caution today and so am completely ready an hour before I need to be.)

Anyway, I'd like to ask you some questions about weddings. For example:

- Have you had a wedding (or are you planning one now)? What was it like, and why did you do it that way?

- If you had a wedding, was it what you wanted, or did you wish you could do it another way now?

- If you have not had a wedding yet (join the club) what would you like to do, and why?

- If you've been to a really nice or a really awful wedding, what was it like?

- If you decided to forgo the wedding entirely, why? What did you do instead?

Link pictures if possible...I love seeing awful bridesmaids' gowns.

ok, so I jsut got married in Ocotber of last year in Las Vegas. IT was great because we got married on a pirate ship in front of the Treasure Island hotel. I wouldn't change a thing since there was no "normal" wedding stress, flowers, music, etc. was all taken care of. I just had to let them know what i wanted and they did it all.

we just had a big "reception" for all of our friends and family who couldn't make it down to vegas for the wedding on April 1st (yes, i know) and it to was great. we had my hisband's family make all the "comfort food" for about 150 people (it was all buffet style) and had a DJ and plenty of beer. We did it as a come as you are thing so everyone was in jeans and shirts and real relaxed. it was one big party celebrating our wedding, which is completely how my husband and i wanted it. very non-traditional, but then again, we are a very non-traditional couple.

No, I'm not getting married for a while. I'll definitely tell the bride you said Hi.

"Hey Gina, Naliitr says hi!"
"...what?"
"Someone from NationStates."
"...what?"
"Never mind. Nice wedding you got here."
"Thanks...who invited you?"

Nice! Yeah, I can't imagine all that stupid stressing over the invitations and centerpieces and all that crap. A wedding is supposed to be about marriage, not hors d'ourves.

Ah, I broke a lot of dishes at the last wedding I was at. Then again, it's costum to break dishes at a German wedding, as more shards mean more luck for the bride and groom. :D

Really! So, you break them right on the floor, or what? Is there a time everybody does it, or do you just randomly break dishes?

My brothers got a wedding coming up, but not for another year.

He's asked me to be his best man which is gonna be bad enough. Anyway, I have no plans. It's his problem to sort out :D

Is he helping plan it, or is he leaving it mostly to the girl?

Really! So, you break them right on the floor, or what? Is there a time everybody does it, or do you just randomly break dishes?Well, the way we did it was get plenty of dishes that wouldn't be needed anymore, as well as zounds of old flower pots and toss them into a place they could be cleaned up from. It was after the eating was done. Everyone that wants to (and that can find something that's intended to be broken) can take part, though its usually the bride and groom that throw the first stuff. It's called "Polterabend" (Noise Evening).

I once went to this crappy wedding reception. It was at the house of either the bride or the groom. The first thing I saw was the husband(I think) working on his car in this dirty-ass undershirt. The inside was worse. Their missing cabinet doors were replaced with dirty towels and sheets. The place smelled funny. When my brother asked for milk(we were young at the time), he saw that all the "clean" cups were grimy, so he said that he wasn't thirsty anymore. The cake looked good, except for the dozens of flies landing on it. That place is probably dirty by third world standards.

As for my future wedding, I haven't finished planning it out in my head. It will be short and to the point. The food will be great. I imagine my wife in a floor-length dress coming down the aisle.

Sorry, but I hate weddings. My cousin got married last week, and while I sincerely disliked the occasions beforehand, this one really got on my nerves. Everything is for show, every single little fucking rule must be obeyed (eg. send the present at this point ((with a pointless card)), go and view the wedding presents ((WTF?!)), you must wear this etc), you have to speak to a pile of santamonious tossers you haven't seen since you were three (and they insist on wanking on about how much you've grown, and when it's gonna be your big day!), all the fucking shit about God (oftentimes even if the couple getting married aren't religious) and....fuck, I could rant on forever.

My boyfriend and I, if and when we ever get married, will invite our closest friends and parents and that's it - and will wed in a registry office in normal clothes, and not have a sodding wedding list.

You can say the same thing to them when it's a funeral...

I got married in a private room that was rented at an S&M club, where I wore a white vinyl wedding dress and ended up with two husbands and a wife. There were about 100 guests, all in black, and actually, the other bride wore black too. The minister in his sermon talked about plagues of frogs (he had managed to lose the script we gave him and was improvising) and the flower girl (25 years old and wearing black leather) tossed the heads of red roses going up the aisle and the bare thorny stems as we went back down after the ceremony.

That was probably the most interesting wedding I have had.

There are pictures. I am NOT posting them on line.

I am getting married soon. However, it's not as soon as I'd like, for reasons that will become clearer...

My future parents in law seem to be running everything. They're making us wait a year until we can get married (they said we had to be 21 - so January will be fine? - no, that's not 21 enough!). We want a small event, we don't want a huge reception and dancing and all the other rubbish, we want something with close family and freinds.

However, we're going to have to have something relatively large to cater for all the people they've already decided they've invited, including all the extended family, most of whom they never speak to because they don't get on with them, and many who are just people who often 'ask after' my fiancee when they see my father in law.

This is annoying. However, it's just bloody rude and inconsiderate when it comes to the fact that my mum's paying for this and can't afford that sort of thing, and to make any kind of low budget approximation of what we need, will probably still have to sell her house. She's determined to pay for it though, a matter of pride and not letting them boss her around, and the fact that they've made it 100% clear that they have absolutely no desire to pay for a wedding. Half the stuff they want is just to show off to their friends.

Oh, and they're into the whole very formal very fake invitations for this thing and that thing and printed thank you letters. Argh, don't mind me, I'm just bloody frustrated.

I win in the end though. I get to keep their son!

Ok, my wedding will be held at a beach park overlooking Lake Tahoe, in the morning as both my bride and I are early morning people (well, she isn't really, but she's bribable with coffee). Reception afterwards in a resturant on the lake.

The style was chosen by her because she wanted a traditional western wedding to show off both my home and my culture to her parents instead of attempting to mix both western and Japanese styles.

Just about everything has been planned by her since we went through the tradition of starting off with her telling me that this was OUR wedding and she wanted to plan it with me to this was going to be HER day and I was to show uo when she said, wear what she said, stand where she said, and say what she told me say.

I've quickly learned the best responce is "Whatever you want, Love." ;)

- Have you had a wedding (or are you planning one now)? What was it like, and why did you do it that way?
I got married at a minute after midnight, in a park on a bridge over a duck pond. My wedding anniversary is 12/01/00 at 12:01:00a

The only people there were the minister, my best friend, my husband's best friend, the videographer, my mom, and my grandparents.

2 weeks later we had a reception for everyone else, and showed the wedding tape at it. I paid $20. for my wedding dress $25 for the license and $5 for breakfast on our "honeymoon" which basically meant we didn't go to work the next day. The reception was a gift, the wedding cake was free, and we recieved 4 toaster ovens which we returned and used the money to go out to a nice dinner just the two of us. ;)

We pretty much eloped, and did it that way because our combined families are mega crazy, thing "My big fat greek wedding" and multiply it 100,000,000 times. :p

I wouldn't change a thing, other than maybe someday we will actually go on a honeymoon.

- If you've been to a really nice or a really awful wedding, what was it like?
a secretary at my husband's old company got married and we went to her wedding, they spent $36K on the wedding, the groom's grandmother died at the reception, the $3K wedding cake fell off the table before we even got any, and was ruined, and the couple filed for divorce the following weekend.
