As you may or may not know, I tend to have suicidal and depressional tendencies. I have found that listening to the band The Arcade Fire tends to keep those tendencies down. I ask you, is music theraputical? I am certainly finding it to be.

Definately. Some of the easy listening can definately improve your mood; classical, jazz, "soft" techno, the like.

Well, I find that some particularly triumphant sounding classical pieces help with my bouts of depression (I'm not sure if I have depression per say, but I certainly have periods where I'm extremely down).

I find it to be very therapuetic. My migraines have been messing with me a lot lately, so my favorite rock tunes have been very helpful in soothing me. It's good for when I'm depressed or need to blow off steam too.

I wrote a research paper on this a while back. According to one of my sources, Music, the Brain, and Ecstasy: How Music Captures Our Imagination by Robert Jourdain, music helps Parkinsons patients. According to my other sources, music helps people to relax, helps patients with dementia, can reduce stress for people undergoing outpatient surgery, can improve people's mood, memory, and creativity, and can help non-athletes to excercise more efficiently (i.e. it paces them.) Yes, I do believe that music is theraputical.

Yes, most definitely, much like animals are therapeutic. When I was working with a boy who has tuberous sclerosis, I would use music to calm him down. When my grandpa was still with us, he would be most responsive when one of us was playing piano for him. I think that it's very possibly one of the greatest forms of therapy.
