Don't you hate it when...

The phone rings.

You answer it with an enthusiastic "Hello" only to hear "Due to an unexpected volume of calls, you will be placed on hold."

Being called and then put on hold has to be the stupidest thing ever.

Usually you can spot that coming by: caller ID not available?

I hate it, like I am going to sit on hold waiting to talk to someone who wants to sell me something I don't want.

btw, I haven't gotten one in like a year or so, since I was put on the "Do Not Call" list.

The last time that happened to me I waited on hold until someone picked up and proceeded to tell her that I was calling on behalf of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Officer's Association (a ficticious organization) and asked her for a donation. If they're going to telemarket me I'll telemarket them right back. I worked as a telemarketer for a short period of time.

Haha, your telemarketers put you on hold? They can't make many sales doing that!

Yeah, in some ways it's better than talking to a real person because I don't have to feel bad about hanging up right off the bat.

I'm getting better about the telemarketers, the other day it only took two tries for me to tell the lady I wasn't interested in a new credit card for me to get her to shut up. Usually I'm stuck through the whole speil until she pauses.

But I'm looking for a job, so I always answer the phone hoping it will be somewhere I applied calling me back.

The place where I worked had a very high employee turnover rate. Each shift was only four hours. After four hours of repeating the same script and hearing the same abuse over and over again it starts to get to you mentally. I quit that job in less than two months.

i always respond "thank you im not interested right now" as soon as i know its a telemarketer and not my credit card company calling me with something important. why waste their time when there is no chance youll buy?

i have also been getting a strange number of spam calls by machine. i dont know how long they go on or if they end with connecting you to a real person since i hang up as soon as i know they are recordings.

who listens to that stuff and who waits on hold for spam??

If I can't get a word in edgewise I hang up too. :p

I personally like to say, "Hey, hold on a second, Ill be right back."
Then I put the phone down and do something else for an hour.
Or
Just say, 'No' repeatedly. Change your tone every time and just repeat it over and over and over every two seconds or so.
Or
Talk about your cats in a high pitched voice. Explain why you named one 'Mr Tiddles'. I can do it for about fifteen minutes before I have to laugh.

There are many ways to make them stop calling you. I think they must refuse to call our number now.
But yeah, Ive always enjoyed telemarketing calls.

My family has never had a single telemarketer call us. Ever. That would be thanks to the cold calling lists we're always on in every state we go to. Sign up on that list and your number is blacklisted from telemarketers: they can't call you without breaking the law.
