Nice muslims? Unthinkable!
Apparently, there are liberal movements within islam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_movements_within_Islam).
Even talk of reform, updating, re-interpreting koran, etc.
Then again, wiki has its' errors:rolleyes:

Are those reforms going to lead to a large number of muslims willing to do our bidding on demand?
If not, the distinction between liberal and orthodox islam is a distinction without a difference.

Yes, apparently that is the purpose of the reforms. In their liberalness, they will lick any feet that kick them.

What the hell? I would never subject my children to that bullshit. King & King, though, I might do that one, if it's that book about gays I keep hearing about lately.

Good luck to them not getting killed. With any luck they'll move the middle east into the twentieth century!

That they do. But we don't mind, right? If the liberals are getting in the mix with the conservatives, we come out with centrist stew. Mmmm, centrist stew. Anyone else hungry?

There are good people in every institution. Trouble is they tend to be less intrusive than the asshats.

I don't get it... how does being liberal or conservative make one nice or mean? Both have more than their share of saints and assholes.

Erm, "liberal" equates to "nice?"
As a counter-example, I point you towards 200 years of American history.

Liberal movements don't have as much force as we'd like. You need full blown reformation. Worked for Christianity.

Uhh...I'm not sure the result of that is what I would describe as having "worked" after looking at today's Christianity.

Haha, and then have half the West try to prevent it because it damages their overseas interests. :p

May i point out that there are lots of christians and muslims all around the world. So please say stuff by region like middle east or europe because these generlizations lead to stereotypes.
And i am not understanding this thread, is it making fun of how the middle east is changing to a more modern way?

If I ask it it's because I obviously didn't see it clearly, maybe I'm to used to people who really think what you have wrote as an irony and I don't have why know in which side are you.
And I just can say I don't believe in curses.

What difference does it make, which side I am on? Or whether I am on a side? Sides are overrated.
As for the curses; that's all right. They believe in you...:p

I for one think that this movement is the future, and especially in Europe it should be promoted to offer Muslims worldwide an alternative to the reactionary and sometimes outright crazy rulings that many leading Muslim scholars seem to dish out.

Good links. It all seems pretty logical.
