The LTTE and SL army are at it again. This time the blame can be squarely placed on the LTTE. First they pull out of the peace talks and then they try to kill the SL army chief..

Bomb targets Sri Lanka army chief

At least eight people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack on Sri Lanka's army headquarters, while the head of the army has been seriously injured.
..
This is the first suicide bombing in the Sri Lankan capital since July 2004, and the biggest attack blamed on the Tamil Tigers since they signed a truce with the government in 2002.

Though the ceasefire still officially holds, Sri Lanka appears to be heading back to war, the BBC's Dumeetha Luthra reports from Colombo.

Fake identification

Military officials say the attacker was a woman who made herself appear heavily pregnant to conceal the explosives.

Turns out that the suicide attacker was indeed a pregnant woman...

Investigator: Tamil suicide bomber who targeted top Sri Lanka general was pregnant
By DILIP GANGULY
AP
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) - The ethnic Tamil bomber who blew herself up targeting Sri Lanka's top general was pregnant, and that helped her to conceal explosives and get inside army headquarters for a maternity check, an investigator says.

The brazen, meticulously planned attack Tuesday triggered reciprocal military action by both government troops and the Tamil Tiger rebels, pushing Sri Lanka close to civil war after a tense four-year cease-fire.

The bomber has been identified as 21-year-old Anoja Kugenthirasah from Vavuniya, a government-held northern town near Tiger-held territory. She is believed to have been a member of the rebels' Black Tigers suicide squad, the investigator said.

And the SL army is retaliating with air strikes..

Sri Lanka airstrikes after bombing

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (CNN) -- Hours after a suicide bomber targeted a military convoy, severely injuring the commander of Sri Lankan forces, the country's air force mounted airstrikes on rebel positions, raising concerns that a nearly four-year-old cease-fire with Tamil Tiger rebels has ended.

The air force targeted positions in the Trincomalee district, in the northeast of the island, at about 6 p.m. (1230 GMT) on Tuesday. There were no initial reports of casualties or damage.

It is the first time since the cease-fire went into effect that government troops have actively targeted rebel positions. More than 30 Sri Lankan soldiers and sailors have been killed this month in sporadic attacks blamed on the Tamil Tiger rebels.

Damn you Prabhakaran. Damn you...why don't you just die  ...there will be peace only when Prabhakaran dies.

Well, MIA is hot and her jams are deceptively infectious. So, as you can see, there are really two sides to every issue.

I only know two things about Sri Lanka.

1. Their flag looks cool.

2. Dangerous wildlife. (I mean, the Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka can kill or paralyze you with a look!)

I would make a distinction between seperatists/seperatism and the megalomaniac Prabhakaran.

The ethnic Tamils of SL have suffered great oppression and the seperatists do have (or atleast had) a cause that I still support (as a fellow Tamil myself).

I just don't agree with Prabhakaran's usurping of that cause.

I won't argue.

That's very true, but on the other hand her music doesn't really address all of the issues in Sri Lanka right now.

And remember, everyone, airstriking/helicopter gunship-ing areas where terrorists might be located just creates more of them. And draws attention to their cause, too, and shows that they might be in the right about it.

aye, probably. i was just indulging in a bit of frivolity. although if you read some interviews with maya arulpragasam (sp?) you'll see that she believes her music has some significance to whatever the troubles are about in sri lanka. i believe she has also born arms for the sri lankan civil rights/seperatist/whatever movement.

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers and the military exchanged fire across front lines on Saturday, overshadowing efforts to return to long-delayed peace talks amid fears the country could slip into a renewed civil war.
..
The cycle of suspected Tiger attacks on the military, ethnic riots and political killings, along with the air strikes and suicide bombing, has claimed some 120 lives in less than a month.
