Take a religious holiday. Sort of like a tax holiday or a credit holiday.

Defer your payments for a few years, sort of thing. Once you get a taste for it, there's no going back.

My religion stresses that peace and happiness are the ultimate goals of mankind, and heroin is the best way to reach them. Or cocaine.

With Heroine we would be so fixated at getting our fix that we would knaw on someone's arm to get more heroine. Not exactly peaceful.

Cocaine causes maassive downers afterwards. Could send the world into emo.

5 reasons to become atheist

5) No silly morals to follow. Unless you live in a theocratic nation, that is

4) you don't need to waste your weekends going to a church

3) No need to starve yourself. ever.

2) save money!! (because there is no pilgramage)

and the #1 reason to be atheist that the existance of god is impossible, and also simply an illogical concept.

actually you can be spiritual without religion and avoid all those things as well. except that I am close with God so it's hard to deny it's existence. And you may think I am illogical but I would think that being a programmer would be hard to do if I didn't have a grasp on logic.

become a fan of football (british terminology here)

get together as a group wearing silly clothes every sunday and chant

talk incesently about it to people who don't care

have fights with other groups because they are following the wrong kind of football (team)

believe in a evil being who with a group of underlings seek to frustrate you and the other followers of the true team (reff and linesmen)

believe that there is a small group of people (12-13 (11 players 1 coach 1 manager)) who are to lead you to the right path but believe when things go wrong that one of them is to blame

I could go on

ya ya ya. the point is that the first 4 reasons were baisically the bnefits of not belonging to organised religion. and if your atheist that means youre not in an organised religion.

Be a Buddhist like the ones represented in The Years Of Rice And Salt. They're like Buddhists, but actually have an afterlife, and they represent Buddha as a god. They say that the afterlife/reincarnation is affected by the good and bad deeds a person does in life, not about their religious, sexual, etc. orientation. If you do enough good deeds in your human lives, you ascend to what is essentially an angel. Do more good deeds and you get to sit with Buddha. Do enough BAD deeds in your human lives, and you get sent back as an animal. Like K in The Years Of Rice And Salt did after she poisoned her father-in-law and brother-in-law. But as a tiger she helped B out, thereby granting her access back into the human life.

Sounds more like rationalism. Isn't atheism simply the belief that there is no good for no reason?

I hope you don't mean that Atheists HAVE no morals... and are, instead, referring to the fact that the skeptic bases her morals on something OTHER THAN 'an old book'...

Free Farmerism: The belief that the Free Farmers is always right, no matter how stupid He may sound. Kinda like right now, how He may sound like a moron, but in reality, He is right. Also, you must send donations to Him, daily, minimum of $1 US. I do hope you join (cause I could use some cash and you could use someone to donate to!) :p

Ask Remorthia. He seems pretty sure about the validity of his beliefs.

Wow! I'm touched that you remembered me! :) Still, as is the nature of truth, my opinion are constantly 'evolving'. We must all adapt to the facts, as denying evidence is ignorance; even so, and more importantly, we must be tolerant of each other. Not agreeing, but not having shouting matches over things.

We're mostly intellectuals here, so even if we're opposites in our convictions, lets all act civilized in our discussions of them (which fortunately seems to be slightly increasing around here).

Well, the very nature of Atheism is that there is no ultimate being/creator, and therefore we have no ultimate power to answer to. There is no need for morals of any kind whatsoever if this mindset is correct. Now, it seems that you feel there is a need for morals, which is a good thing indeed, but please understand that in the Atheistic world view, there is no justification nor reason for morals, with the exception of mutual benefit, which only has a partially justified place in Atheism (the only reason to have mutual benefit would be that since others would benefit, the would help you in the future, since you helped them through the mutual benefit, thus re-inforcing that all human behavior is selfishly motivated).

Besides, even non-atheistic morals are ultimately selfish. Any religious believer (Christian, Muslim, Pastafarian, etc) who follows their belief's moral code does it because they wish to live in paradise afterwards. We're all selfish, and we all have morals, wether they be counterdictive to others or not.
