Experienced in publishing?
I hjave written a novel which is about four hundred pages long and I need to find a good self publishing place to use. I already have my illustrator but my budget is limited. My parents will only allow for me to publish under one thousand dollars. Does any one know of a good place I could send it to?

Er, no but I have a great idea for an action story so if you find one tell me. P.S. whatever you do remember to copyright it first.
I've looked at Authorhouse which is a bit expensive and now I'm considering Instant Publisher. I won't forget to copyright it!

Why self publish? If you have faith in the quality of the work why not try conventional publishing?

My advice is to get an editor to write a cover note, and send that, a summary, the first chapter and one other excerpt to all your local publishing houses. Self-publishing is a usually unsuccessful grind, that there's no sense putting yourself through if you have the ability to get published.

yeah, what Bodies Without Organs said. Also, if ever does get published, before to let us know what it's called so we can check it out:)

Call me BWO, it saves wear and tear on the fingers, and is what most people here use.
Not that I'm implying that there aren't entirely valid reasons to self-publish - I do afterall have something of a history of zine production myself.
I am however voicing slight suspicions concerning the vanity presses - it isl possible to cut them out of the operation entirely and typeset your own work and then just deal directly with the printers.
