10 bucks for wine, and 16 for gratuity.
200 for the girlie
and 90 for gas for my SUV.

I'm confused--why are you calling petrol, gas, or why does your SUV run on gas, my just-south-of-the-Scottish-border friend?

I put $40 in my car. I think a gas bill for an SUV is more like $80. Also, good hookers are at least $500. If you only spend $100 on a hooker you have very forgiving taste.

On another note, when I read the title I thought this was going to be a thread that praised high gas prices for the death of the SUV. I was going to say how grateful I am for that.

Petrol, short for petrolium, AKA oil. Your car does not run on oil.
Gas, short for gasoline, AKA Gasoline! It's what your car does run on.

Brits are so goofy.

I was deferring to US tastes and conventions for the sake of clarity - having made the assumption that a well-educated Briton would know the original Latin text.

I apologise for being frightfully unaware about the pricetags of prostitutes.

I'd say an SUV is more of an accessory for those who can afford it the increasing prices on fuel makes you seem every more flash for the ladies so its all good

of course you could go for an APC or tank and scare Smart car drivers with your machoness :p

Yes, but petrol = [French (essence de) pétrole, (essence of) petroleum, gasoline, from Old French petrole, petroleum, from Medieval Latin petrleum. See petroleum.]

gas ≠ liquid...

Indeed, but I firmly maintain that Gasoline and Petrol are entirely disseperate substances due to the price differentail. And Gasoline certainly seems to prefer being a highly flamable gas to being liquid, so I'd say that's not entirely a misnomer anyway.

Out of curiosity, what do those of you in non-english speaking countries call the stuff? (and how does it translate?)

...

The word is short for gasoline, the name of the fuel.

But you probably already knew that and was just being a smartass. Though I often approve of smartass attitudes, it does not go over well in some instances. =/

If you're going to be so silly, why not all just call petrol dragon juice?

It is called Benzin in Russia, which though not strictly speaking accurate, is self-explanatory.

i dont know if this has already been covered, but theres a difference between gas and gasoline with the comparison you are making. Tru, relating to the physical states of matter, gas does not equal liquid, but thats gas, not gasoline...

now the other gas... thats just short for gasoline..... not to be confused with the less dense physical state of matter of gas

The rich fuckwads, who can still afford the SUV, will continue to buy them, especially if they live in cities where THEY ARE NOT NEEDED AT ALL.

I drive an SUV. I get 12mpg, and I pay $66 a week in fuel.

Unfortunately for me... I have a wheelchair, that doesn't fold mind you, which prevents me from buying any car (not that I want to, I mean I love SUVs!) But it does get frustrating, and I most likely would buy a car if I could.

Oh well.

I had a car, and it got 22mpg, but wouldn't hold my kids and my groceries, so by the time I paid the sitter and made 2 trips to the store, it was costing me more $$ than it does now to drive the SUV that gets 18mpg.

I suppose if I was really smart, I would save up the $$ to get one of those hybrid SUV's, of course that would mean not eating or you know living in a house, so........maybe not.

Really? Perhaps you should consider investing in a folding wheelchair. I do not know how much those cost, but it might very well pay for itself quite soon, depending on where you buy one.

I do not know how much those cost, but it might very well pay for itself quite soon, depending on where you buy one. They're $500, but the price is no problem for me (my current chair is 10x as much). It's all about dignity for me... they look goofy, are 2x as heavy, aren't very rigid, and are much harder to move around in freely.

Whereas my current wheelchair is sporty, made out of titanium so it's really light, and maneuverability is excellent.

I mean, which one would you choose? ;) :
