Is the Razr cell phone worth having?

My cell phone plan offers me a phone upgrade every so often, and this time around I have a choice: I can either get a standard new phone for free, or I can pay $25 to get a slick-looking Razr phone.

Does anybody around here have a Razr? Is it worth it?

I don't have one, but it might be worth it if you have a pretty small purse and a thinner cell phone would make more room for your keys.

I'm looking for a new phone, but a Razr at $25 to me is worth it!

I do like how it looks, and it would be nice to have something thinner to slip into my pocket, but I'm worried that it would be more flimsy or prone to breaking.

Well, but I could get a standard color-screen camera phone for free. That's what has me right now...if the Razr were free too, I would try it, but I don't want to pay an extra $25 for a phone that ends up being crappier than the free one I could have gotten.

I have the Razr, the older flip model. It sucks. Honestly, you'd be better off with a beans tin and a really long piece of string.

Yes. My plan gave me one for free. They actually have tops audio quality for a cell. That's the main thing.

For $25 get it, you won't regret it.

What's $25 anyway? :)

The "candy-bar" phones are better for those who tend to drop their phones as the "flips" are more fragile because of their design. Oh, my next phone might be another "candy-bar" but the one I want is very expensive.

The Razr phone is worth every penny. I own one and it gets great reception, the camera works fine and it is not at all flimsy.

Yeah, which is why I mostly wanted feedback from people who have one. I just want to know if it holds up under regular use, because I'm not willing to pay extra just to get a crappy phone that looks cool.

I'm not a total cell phone junkie, but my cell is my only phone (I don't have a land-line at home). Whatever phone I get is going to have to hold up, otherwise I will have no phone access at all. My mother only calls me about once every couple of weeks, but god help me if my phone is broken when she does try to call me...she will have the National Guard banging down my damn door.

Wow, that's actually pretty impressive for a phone photo.

Of course, I'm a bit backwards...I'm not yet hip to all this "text messaging" and "photo sharing" that the kids are into today.

Actually, to be fair to the phone, other people have taken better shots.

Regardless, it's a pretty neat phone. I would definitely get pay $25 for it. Mostly I just use the camera thing for kitty shots though.

Cool beans. Thanks for responding, everybody so far...I have to run along to class, but if more people want to post their opinions on the Razr it will be much appreciated.

Hooray for market research! :)

Did you say it only costs $25? That's pretty fricking cheap, though that's not counting the actual service...

It's actually remarkably sturdy. I own one and got the protection plan on it because I assumed, like you, that it would be flimsy and break easy. But I've done more damage to this phone than any of my previous ones, and it still works just fine.

Yah, its all metally.

Plus when you flip it, it is all real phone size. Greatest cell ever in my opinion.

I tried out the razr for a little while. It's ok. The reception is good, but many Nokia models are a little better in that department. Where the razr shines is in it's think shape and the large, bright internal screen.
Not bad

Anyway back on subject motorola is about to launch the razr replacement.

LoL...stole the words outta my mouth.

I tend to find most athiests are former theists who actually started thinking for themselves instead of just blindly following what they were told... Not always, but all too often.

Back to the subject at hand. I have a few friends with Razrs. They like em. I've been thinking about upgrading to one as well...

I used to have a RAZR but traded it in for an SLVR.

To be honest I liked both of them, but i'm not a fan of flip phones so when I got the chance to change i did.

One word of warning however, a friends fiancee works for 02 (mobile phone network in the UK) and he warned against getting one as models of the RAZR used to/still have (not sure on if this has been solved yet) have number pads which weren't coated properly and tarnished after a few months due to the sweat in peoples fingers, but I guess if you are getting a new one it doesn't matter.

LG phones are shit for the most part. Now V-cast, that's verizon, right? I'm not sure how good the nokias made for verizon are because verizon isn't GSM. Nokia builds fantastic GSM phones. Best in the industry.

No. No cell phone is worth having. (Unless you work for the emergency services or are a doctor or something.)

One extra thing on why I would take the SLVR over the RAZR is that the slvr can hold a memory (micro SD) card up to 1GB in size that can be used as a portable HDD.

and you really can't overstate the benefits of a cell that actually fits in a pocket.

Unless your broadband is cable, that makes no sense at all.

On my dislike of cell phones it is simply that I can be reached anywhere I am going to be using land lines. The only times you can not reach me are when I am :
1. - Driving
2. - At a movie
3. - At a restaurant
4. - not wanting to be reached.

So why would I want a cell phone?

My broadband is just an internet connection, yet also part of my cable TV deal, but I have no phone connection.

I therefore use my mobile all the time. When I don not wish to be contacted, i leave it on silent. Besides, text (SMS) messages are my most often used means of communication and whilst at work or studying I frequently need to use them, hence need of a mobile phone as I have no land line. Plus I am not always in the same location at once, therefore one number is easier to give people than 2 or 3.

Roaming charges?!!! Who are you using. Get on the verizon plan and make sure its the one that has nationwide roaming included puerto rico, hawaii and parts of Alaska. It is a great deal. Pay about 150 a month (tax incl) for two phones. I travel all the time and NEVER get roaming charges. My talk plan is about 4500 minutes between the two phones. Only gone over by a bit over the past couple years two times.

$25? Totally worth it. I got mine for Christmas, and it works great. I've dropped it multiple times, it hasn't broken yet. Good camera quality, good sound quality. A top noch phone, I'd recomend it.

The only downside I've really found is that people automatically assume that I'm incredibly rich because I can afford a Razr (I'm not - Christmas Gift). But other than this, its a great phone.
