What is your fav. power ballad? Mine would probably be "No Leaf Clover" by Metallica. I saw it live.

My definition of "Power Ballad" is probably much different that yours. Mine would have to be "Power Out" by The Arcade Fire. (Note: My definition of Power Ballad is something that is very melodic, yet still has heavy instruments such as electric guitars and the such.

Ditto on the definition question. Mine would probably be either Dylan Thomas' "Do not go gently into that good night" or one of William Blakes poems.

Ballad of the Green Berets is good too....

Isn't Ballad of the Green Berets muzac? Just wondering. And does Jackson Browne/Springsteen count as power ballad? Depressing folk songs! Woo!

I'm not sure if Guns N' Roses "Don't Cry" is considered a power ballad or not! If so, then that's my favorite! If not, I'll go with KIX - "Don't Close Your Eyes"! Second favorite; Great White - "Save Your Love"! Third is a tie between Europe - "Carrie" & Boston - "Amanda"!

"The Divine Wings of Tragedy" by Symphony X if the fellow who defined it is correct.

Edit: Wiki informs my that "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche also falls in the category. That makes it a tough choice.

I find that generally songs that fit what I think of as "Power Ballads" are shit. Does "I Stay Away" by Alice in Chains count, though?

Not sure that I had ever encountered the term "power ballad" before, but I suppose the song that I could think of that comes closest to the definition would be "30,000 pounds of bananas" by Harry Chapin.

ns general is very quiet at this time.

to me a power ballad is one of those really cheesy eighties rock songs with really yearning vocals and anthemic choruses. because they don't deserve to be called proper tunes.

so i'd say : the final countdonwn by europe for the out and out cheese factor; or the eye of the tiger by whatever fool band recorded it because it references tigers. tigers are inherently cool.

Eye of the Tiger is by Survivor... but does that count as a power ballad? I'm not sure.

My favorite has to be Open Arms by Journey. Dunno why... but it is.
