My house mate could only describe the hysterics he was in when he saw this. He is a Darlington (Darlo) fan and couldn't believe his teams luck...

and yes, it's a soccer game for those of you on the other side of the pond or for people who don't call it football.

Plus my very own teams Dean Windass showing what he thinks of a ref's decision...

How unpleasant. Own goals are relatively common is soccer, though. He'll get over it. On my high school basketball team, we had a guy that scored for the other team. It was pretty pathetic.

What happened to the guy who hit the ref?

Probably nothing since the ref didn't see who kicked the ball at him :D

What happened to the guy who hit the ref?

hopefully a fine or a suspension.

That shit's uncalled for.

He got a ban and a fine, although it wasn't great as he didn't mean it. But he warrented a ban as if you kick the ball away in protest you get a yellow card and if you manage to hit the ref, you know you're in for it.

Bwhahahaha, I was going to contest this as the best own goal ever, but then I actually saw it. That's brilliant.

I was going to say this old classic, it's not as beautifull but it's still tragic; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3VoQ3-JUCg&search=own%20goal

That ones pretty good too, esp. as my girl friend is a Blues fan...poor girl needs all the cheering up she can get this season given how crap her team is...

He wasn't the brightest cookie in the shed. Really though, he wasn't that dumb, but he also wasn't always very aware of things around him. He got a rebound on defense and immediately tried to put the ball into the basket. He actually did that more than once. The second time, he scored.

It was sort of a play on words. A mixed metaphor to comically emphasize his mental slowness.

Ah, I see. It works, I guess.
