Churchgoers demand right to break the law and inconvenience their neighbors

In Washington DC churchgoers have been double parking on Sunday mornings. It seems there's a bit of a parking shortage, and people can't be bothered to show up early or park farther away and walk to church. Instead they double park and block in the cars of people living near the churches.

Now that DC police are planning to crack down and issue tickets the good Christian folks of DC are claiming that ticketing them for breaking the law is an infringement on their religious freedom.

Tell 'em to render to Caesar what is Caesar's...

Or, in other words: Religion should never ever be accepted as an excuse to disobey the Laws.

Oh my god. How much more energy can it possibly take to park properly? People do it all the time. :headbang:

Yup, this is the brutal face of our horrible Anti-Christian Secularism! We will ruthlessly insist that Christians be compelled to obey the same laws as everybody else, which violates their religious belief that they are special and deserve to live by a totally different set of rules than everybody else.

Ok, in all seriousness, though, this is my message to these Christian yahoos:

Render onto Ceasar what is Ceasar does seem to fit here.

The people who go to these churches should know better than to double park. I applaud the police in this case. Even christians have to follow the law.

I am a bleeding heart, and I think that is offensive! Lol. Anyway, I would probably assume these guys make up a small portion of the Christian population. I mean, that is just ridiculous. Not double parking is evil? Come on.

Most Christians I know, myself included, (except that creepy guy down the street) in no way think they are above the law or anything.

Yeah, it must be tough for them, since they only control every branch of the government, 9 out of 10 major corporations, and 75% of the population.

I really wish I had an emoticon clapping a hand to its face right about now.

And that goes for all the peeps posting as well. It's just another instance of people trying to get out of commiting a crime, using an excuse. This excuse is no more valid than most others. The fact that it is religiously based is beside the point.

There is a big difference between most Christians, the creepy fire and brimstone Uber-Christians, and the guys who do this: use religion as an excuse to do what they want. Don't lump em in the same category.

Were these "Christian" folk actually practising what they preached they would see that Jesus said a lot about obedience and very little about rights. He also said quite a lot about hypocrisy. ( He also spoke about sorting oneself out before criticising others so I should shut up! ) :(

Sadly, that's not really true in America. See, around here, people get away with some pretty messed up stuff as long as they claim to be doing it in the name of religion. Individuals and organizations are allowed to violate our federal tax laws, as long as they happen to be religious. Discrimination against fellow citizens is condoned, and even encouraged, as long as it is being done in the name of "religious" beliefs, which nobody is supposed to attack. Excuses that would never be accepted if they were invoked in the name of aliens or magic leprechauns are considered normal and acceptable if you attach the name of Jesus or Yahweh.

A great many religious Americans disagree with this. A great many religious Americans recognize how dangerous and unfair these standards are. But the fact remains that, in America, it quite often DOES matter if an excuse is religious in nature.

Grah. Wish I could do something about it rather than just sit here and whine about it.

They are quite a few sects, factoring into three major catagories: Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox. Protestants further divide into several catagories, including Presbyterian, Lutherian, Methodist, Evangelical, Episcopelian, etc. I only know of Greek and Russian Orthodox, though there might be more.

I'd say even more so. We usually just hear about Shiites and Sunnis, which is like saying Catholics, Orthodox, Coptics, or Protestants in Christianity. But even inside those broad categories there are many many differences depending on place, culture, etc.

A Catholic from Chiapas will be very different to a Catholic from Germany. Same thing happens in Islam.

Not blown up but rather stripped down for spare parts to be sold to local auto mechanics and body shops. Recycling is better for the environment and more profitable than blowing stuff up.

This reminds me of this quote

Long I know

I was in San Fransisco once, walking along the Golden Gate Bridge, and I saw this guy on the bridge about to jump. So I thought I'd try to stall and detain him, long enough for me to put the film in. I said, "Don't jump!" and he turns... You've heard of the elephant man. He was kind of like that, he had a, well, you could say he had the head of a horse. And my heart went out to him. I said, "Why the long face?"
He said, "'Cause all my life people have called me mean names like horses-head or Flicka or chess-piece or Trigger..."
I said, "Well, don't worry about it, Ed. It can't be that bad."
He said, "My girlfriend's suing me!"
I said, "For palomino?"
He said, "Why was I put on this Earth?"
I said, "My friend, anywhere else you wouldn't stand a chance."
He said, "Nobody loves me."
I said, "God loves you, you silly ninny."
He said, "How do you know there's a God?"
I said, "Of course there's a God. Do you think that billions of years ago a bunch of molecules floating around at random could someday have had the sense of humor to make you look like that?"
He said, "I do believe in God."
I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?"
He said, "A Christian."
I said, "Me too. Protestant or Catholic?"
He said, "Protestant."
I said, "Me too! What franchise?"
He says, "Baptist."
I said, "Me too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?"
He says, "Northern Baptist."
I said, "Me too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Baptist."
I say, "Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist or Northern Conservative Reform Baptist?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist."
I say, "Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Eastern Region?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region."
I say, "Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879 or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912."
I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over!

At least diverse enough to not be viewed as a lump, any more than the christians.

But, simple is easy and easy is good.

If what you call "religious freedom" infringes on the freedoms of everyone else, its NOT "religious freedom", its "pain in the mother fucking ass."

Parking problems? Aww, heres a pacifier, now use your feet that god gave you and walk.
