Best video game intro?

I know, this is a bit desperate ;)
Anyway, what video game would you say has the best intro video? Thats the bit before the title screen appears, just so you know.
Anyway, I would go for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. Just seeing the Space Marines in action makes the whole thing worth it ;)
Startopia runs a close second for its parody of Space Odysee.
Third...the original Age of Empires, maybe. Sure, its not so hot by our standards, but back in the day, that was some awsome stuff. I think it was the first fully computer generated thing I ever saw. Unless I watched Reboot before that, I remember both, but not the exact timing :P

True on the DOW. I would love to see the look on the orks faces as the drop pods come in.
My vote goes to Shadow of the Colossus. Beautiful game and the intro video of the hero riding along the mountains is no less impressive.

Final Fantasy VIII.
Some of the Final Fantasy games have very dramtic intros, such as X and VIII.
But, while we're on FMVs, I'd like to point out that some of the scenes in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War were very emotional, especially the sinking of the Kestrel and the chorus of the pilots at the end.

I used to like sitting by the tv screen waiting for the ZX Spectrum to draw the picture of the Hobbit, line by line, and if one line was out of place you had to load the whole bloody thing again, taking another ten minutes...
WHAT? OK, I'M OLD, BITE ME :P

I'd say that it's a tie between Shadow of the Colossus and Drakengard. Out of all the games I own, these two are also my favorite to play.

"In A.D. 2101, war was beginning"
Reboot kicked ass. I loved the one episode, World Web War or something, when the viruses broke through this portal en masse and they had to fight them off.

What about Metal Gear: Solid Snake?
I want to get KH2 and AC Zero for my B-Day, which is next week.

It's good. I'd say I liked MSG2 the best, however.

Halo or Halo 2, one of the best, and it's you can literally play through the beginnings even if there is no combat you get to controll the character, even if for short brief periods of time.

I don't remember Halo's intro being THAT spectacular. Don't get me wrong, great game, but the intro was lacking. Halo 2's was an improvement, though.

Final Fantasy VII. Especially the PS3 tech demo >_>
Bah, fuck you all.
Ace Combat FTW.
Oh wait. I'm stupid. The best intros are the ones from the Total War games.
I'm a big fan of Command and Conquer: Generals
"In the Modern World, Great leaders resolve their conflicts with words.
Words Like: Scud Launcher
Carpet Bombing
Tomahawk Missile"
With accompanying clips of these 'words' in action.

The only problem with Generals is that there aren't the wonderfully cheesy live-action cinematics.
General's is aging, but it's good fun.
Watch that Total Annilihilation sequel that's coming later this year, it's supposed to be dope.

Seconded on the Dawn of War bit. Awesome, awesome intro video that really captures the setting perfectly.
Another RTS intro I like is Rome: Total war - Barbarian Invasion. It's gameplay footage and fairly simple but it does a helluva job of capturing the epic feeling of the game. Massive armies, night battles, seiges and such. Simple yet cool.

Or when they slap the explosives on the dreadnought and blow it to pieces.
That was pretty good too.
Final Fantasy VIII.

Damn, beat me to it. Call of Duty 1's intro was good too. I didn't really think much of Rome Total War's introduction, or BI- awesome game, but the intro wasn't particularly interesting, it was fuzzy and just some clips of battles.

I don't think it is really the best intro, but I remember when the first PS2 Final Fantasy game came out, and my friends and I gathered to watch the openning sequence. At the time, it basically seemed like that game had better resolution than the real world. It was pretty mind-blowing.
Of course, of the next weeks, we came to know and loathe the abomination that was Tidus. But that is a story for another time.
Colonization, with Baldur's Gate at a close second.
I'd say Rise of Nations is certainly one of the best. Kingdom Hearts II also had a fantastic intro.
I can't really say though. Most of them are more or less on par with each other.

I don't think any of the spoken words were intended to actually be intelligeble. I didn't understand any of it, anyway.

As for Rise of Legends, I'm hoping the FMV matches Rise of Nation's quality.

By your definition it isn't the intro, but if you wait at the title screen of Ace Combat 05: The Unsung War, the "intro" comes up and that is the best I've seen (or liked the most).
Someone said Ace Combat Zero: the Belkan War they want for their birthday, good choice, I will have that one in a few days.

Not to divert the topic too much, but how is that game? I've been holding off buying it because I'd rather not flunk out of school, but I was planning to pick it up after finals...is it as good as the first one?

I second that. The G-Man intro and outro for HL2 send shivers down my spine. Can't wait for the movie to be made!
Final Fanstay's have some good intro's, but i'm a fan of Metal gear Solid 2's opening intro and first in movie.... i thought it was really (REALLY) good... cuz Solid Snake is like...THE best dude for spy games.

Yea, I have to admit the intro for DOW was pretty cool. My boyfriend is obsessed with the game (okay, not obsessed, but the clan he's in can take up a good chunk of his time, especially back when he was a section leader), and made me watch the intro several times when he first got it. :p I also rather liked the intro for Civ IV.

Besides, MGS2 is good for it's in game movies. I know full well there I better ones out their, but at least it's just a bit imaginative.

It's far better, actually. Occasionally it seems like the worlds are shorter, but they're actually longer. It's more of no longer having that "wow" effect going on.
But I certainly say you should buy it, Mr. Bottle.

I also had an idea: market videogames as a way to protect kids against skin cancer. I mean, it's not like my skin is gonna be getting much sun while I'm plugged into the PS2...

Red Alert 2, without a doubt. Sure, WH40k in action was pretty sweet, but nothing beats RA2. First the corny dialouge, then the cool shots of hundreds of Kirovs and Dreadnaughts...plus that awesome song, Hell March. Pure gold. Generals was a huge disappointment to me beacuse of the lack of videos.
Splinter Cell are cool too. Halflife2's dream G-man sequence was pretty cool too, but it doesn't count. I just loved his face movement.

The Mechwarrior series out of which MW2: mercenaries was my fav, just the right blend of horror, confusion and outright stompy mech action.
Or maybe Star eige universe, the one with the little girl talking was more than a little spooky.
Or what about interstate 76 and nirtro riders those were rather funky.
best outro i have actually seen would likely be Shogo Mobile armour divsion where you guy goes nuts and blows up the bartender with the rocket launcher...

I am shocked... shocked, I say, that no one has yet mention 'Double Dragon'.
Seriously, it's a classic.
Pretty girl walks down the street and is confronted by thugs. Thugs punch her in the gut, (cue electronic 'yelping' noise), big thug throws her over his shoulder, and they strut away.
Cue, garage door opening, and one man in blue, and one man in red come out fists ablazin'.
What more intro could you possibly need?
