LotR Races

Just out of curiosity, which Lord of the Rings race do you think you are most like?

I would be a mix between the Hobbits and the Elves. I like the simple life, but at the same time I love that other worldly feeling. I have to admit I even try to incorporate that feeling into everyday life. It's weird I know, but we all do weird things. I have to add some type of spice to my life.

Persons have said I most like the Elves, though. Most persons point to my pride. Yeah, I guess that's a factor, too.

Anyway, what race do you all see yourselves to be the most like?

Huh? Are you making a joke that I'm too stupid to understand? That covers most jokes.

You could be Galadriel... or Arwen...you don't see any Dwarf women do you? Not even in any of the other writings.

I was pointing out that the women in LotR are not all human or Men. If she wanted to be an Elf, she could be Galadriel or Arwen. Not truly them, but someone like them.

the goblins in the background because they get by loving and learning just trying to get by under there evil master they are the true heroes of the story they had Orcs after there job, a hard ass boss who has an all seeing eye and clearly no dental yet they still fought for there people against the wicked races who kept them exiled to that volcano with vicious hate

Things I noticed:

- No goblin women and children were ever seen because they lived on the other side of the volcano that had good schools, open spaces and loving stable families

- seeing as how all the goblins lived near the volcano they were all killed in a vicious act of genocide by the hobbits

- no goblins attacked helms deep because they knew it contained civilians and an army only looking to protect them so they stood up to there overlords and said “NO!” (note that the goblins didn’t attack anything like this throughout the whole story)

- most people think there evil because of how they look but too me that’s just intolerance that J.R.Tolken preached

Oh ya, LotR is basically just anti-goblin propaganda. Lets face it, that's why Tolkien wrote it in the first place. He's just a big goblin-hating bastard.

Tree Ent was my second choice, fallen Maiar a close third. Dragons won out due to the ent's natural indecisiveness that goes along with exaggerated patience.

The elves are pure awesomeness. They've got Legolas! LEGOLAS.

He would whoop the crap out of any other LotR character, hands down. I've got to imagine he's a good representation of his entire race.

In an unrelated story: Anyone ever read Eragon or Eldest? Elves ftw.

What about the Ainur? The Elves wouldn't stand a chance against the Valar. Or Iluvatar himself! (How does one put accent marks on letters!?!)

And I haven't read Eregon or Eldest. I plan to read them, though.

What does "ftw" mean?

ftw = for teh (the) win

And Legolas is hardly a normal Elf, he is an elven pricne form Mirkwood if I recall correctly, and not only that everyone apart fomr the hobbits who accompanied the Rign Bearer in LotR was special in some way or another - and the hobbits became that.

Kvetha fricai! The elves in Eragon and Eldest are the shiz, they'd whup the LotR elves soooo many different ways.

Also, Legolas isn't really representative of his race. He's a lot more awesome than your elf on the street.

I'd be a dwarf, mostly cause I despise anyone as uppity as the elves.
I also don't care for the outdoors and prefer the straightforward approach to combat (cut its head off with an axe, works every time).

My spelling is horrible, so please forgime me-

In Tolkien, ther term "goblin" refers to the smallest and most intelligent breed of orcs- those from the misty mountains, in Moria, etc. So they did not all "live by the volcano". The only goblins in Mordor were those summoned there by Sauron- they made up part of the invading force, part of the reserve army, and were one of the mutinous factions in the garrison at Morgul. Goblins did not attack Helm's Deep because they could not keep up with the fast pace of Saruman's Urik army. They were the garrison remaining in Isengard who fought the Ents- (and who were responsible for the damage to the forest) Goblins were involved in the invasion of Gondor however- particularly the river crossing attack at Osgilliath, but also in the assault on the White City.

So your "goblins our our friends" concept is nothing but erroneous revisionist history.

I can't say I would fit with the happy-go-lucky lazy lifestyle of the hobbits, nor would I mix well with the "royalty" and sophisticated life of the elves. I think I would have to fall in more with, um, humans; specifically the Rohirrim. However, those who know me well would say of all the characters in the story, my closest match would be Samwise Gamgee.

well the story was written by a hobbit in the...story so its hardly biased is it considering Frodo only saw part of the story and supported one side also Frodo was writing an adventure so he was bound to add some parts in

Also how would you feel if someone stole a priceless ring from you and then went to go kill you I for one would be pretty bent on stopping them wouldn’t you *shakes fist at pesky hobbits*

elves?!?perfect?!?! hardly. They were the first in time to draw blood. They have had more civil wars than all of humanity put together. It was their greed and unwillingnes to compromise which led to the destruction of belierland. Their neglect and unwillingnes to aid each other led to morgoths powerful reign and the effects thereof. Men, though still traitors, arent half as bad.
