Am I the only person looking forward to a major outbreak of Avian Influenza in America? I think it has a serious chance of making our increasingly corrupt government to become defunct.

Don't know why you're looking forward to it, it's not going to happen. In a country the size of America, with regulations on poultry farming (at least, I assume there are regulations), there'll probably be about 100,000 people affected, and about 1% of those will die. Hardly an epidemic.

So far, over 50% of people with bird flu have died, actually.
Also, America is run by capitalists who barely regulate the food industry (the FDA is notorious for allowing contaminated beef to be approved).

Yes, but the vast majority (if not all) have been in rural agricultural communities in lesser developed countries. America has an advanced health system, so it won't affect it as much.

Those two aren't mutually exclusive, you know. =p

Sorry, I have nothing constructive to add to this discussion. I just wanted to say that. >_>

Honestly we could use a good plague to wipe out about half the world's population. Solve so many problems.

As for bird flu, it won't be a threat. Despite the current media frenzy about it there's no evidence it's likely to mutate to a human variant.

an advanced health system? I don't know what you've been smoking but Americas Health system is in shambles, the only real advantage we have over nations like Canada and Britain is that our industrial complex is so astoudingly huge that we can make up for our more obvious deficiencies with sheer quantity, but even that is not entirely on your side.
I.E. the last few Flu Seasons have been a struggle by the U.S. to get enough FLu Vaccine because our Drug companies wanted there to be a shortage so they could raise prices, The only countries with worse problems getting FLu Vaccine are countries that don't even have a medical establishment

Current media frenzy?
I haven't heard anything about it in the news for some time now.

I believe that death toll from the Bird Flu is about 120. Most or all of them in 3rd world countries with crappy health care. I'm more concerned with bird poop, than bird flu.

What I find interesting is that every year we hear about how bad the flu is, and how every man woman and child needs the vaccine or they might diiiie! But that year with the flu shortage, the flu was no worse than it was when we had plenty of vaccine.

yes, but the difference is, Avian flu realy IS deadly. unfortunately, Drug Companies have been crying wolf over the flu for so long, that a lot of people won't buy the deadliness of Avian Flu until its too late.

I don't go hoping some big serial killer will come to town in the hope that it will improve the standard of policing where I live.
