Personally love Rise Against, even though they don't get any radio airplay.

Well, all of the music I like is underrated, but I suppose Local H is more underrated than some other bands, so I'll say them.

Much of the stuff I listen to...
65daysofstatic, Oceansize, GY!BE, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Rós...

I imagine there are radio stations they do get airplay on, but I've only ever heard three of those bands on radio, and two of them were on a post-rock show. 65daysofstatic get a bit of airplay on One Music, but not that often. Sigur Rós seem to have gained more mainstream acceptance since the release of Takk... I saw the Hoppipolla video on MTV2 yesterday. Fucking weird, it is.

Out of the bands I would say I listen to, very few get airplay. Foo Fighters do, but even then it's only ever their crappy new stuff. Radiohead sometimes get on as well. I once heard "1979" by the Smashing Pumpkins on the radio, and that made my week.

Hardly ever...the only older Foos you're likely to hear is "Everlong" or "Monkey Wrench", but that would be about it. Maybe "Breakout". As for the Pumpkins...I think I once heard "Today" on the radio, and aside from that one time with "1979" I think that's about it.

Maybe I just don't listen to the radio enough, or to the right shows. That's why I listen to CDs and my MP3 player so much, radio just isn't any good.

Rise Against is one of my favourite bands too..

Most punk/hardcore bands do not get a lot of airplay and a lot of them do not allow certain radio stations or mtv to play their music - like NOFX.

US Bombs is in my cd player right now - gotta love em.

I've only heard one of Local H's songs "All the Kids are right" which I think is a hiliarious song. I'll have to look up some more of their stuff.

I'm looking to add more good music to my playlist, not nessicarily the popular stuff.

I don't think Rammstein are particularly well known outside Germany. They might count as underrated.

Jump, Little Children (recently shortened to Jump) is seriously underrated. Even the local college radio station (Towson, Maryland, anyone?) doesn't play them! And they'll play ANY weird underground thing.

We just know DU HAST MECH! over here in the US. What does that even mean? I heard it means "you hate me."

I don't know who you classify by 'we', but my roommate has like EVERY Rammstein song ever made. A lot of the floor likes em.

Hootie and the Blowfish

Oh shit, I love Hootie. I hated them when they were first popular but now I like them. I am determined to start reviving 90s band popularity under the "retro" banner. Under this banner:
-Spice Girls
-Backstreet Boys
-Sister Hazel
-Deep Blue Something (just the one song I guess)
-who did that song "Runaway Train"? Them.

"Du hast mich" may mean either "you hate me" or "you have me". They have many such intentional ambiguities in their lyrics.

Faith No More was a band that I feel never got their just due. All their albums were great, not just Epic.

Ah, very clever! And why does the lady in the music video look like a drag queen? Come to think of it, most of the ladies in "Run Lola Run" (besides the main character) look like drag queens.

Ignoring the fact I don't know what a "drag queen" is :), I don't know exactly why does she look like that. Perhaps you can find out on this site:

Kyuss.

And Mudhoney and Monster Magnet and Spiderbait and Sonic Youth (particularly their 80's stuff) and Cathedral and *snip*

Hmm, the Pumpkins are pretty popular on radio over here, especially "Bullet With Butterfly Wings", "Today", "Zero" and as you mentioned, "1979".

I don't listen to radio much either though. *shrugs*

Erm...they're one of the foremost industrial/metal bands in the world...

As for Du Hast, the ambiguity of the lyric 'du hast mich' is removed by the line 'du hast mich gefragt', meaning 'you have asked me'.

But yeah, there's loads of ambiguous lyrics or wordplay in Rammstein's songs - such as in Los (on Reise Reise), with the lines 'Es ist hoffnungslos/Sinnlos/Hilflos/Sie sind Gott/Los'. Up to 'Sie sind Gott/Los', it means 'It is hopeless/senseless/helpless'. However, the last two lines can mean three different things - 'They are God/Go!' (Sie sind Gott. Los!); 'They got rid of God' (Sie sind Gott los); and 'They are godless' (Sie sind gottlos).

Please slap me. I may learn something new. :) English is not my first language.

I V Stalin, I think many people outside Germany haven't heard of them. That's why I said they might count as underrated.

Possibly. Jonathan Ross once played them on his show on Radio 2 (in the UK). I imagine many people have heard of them, but they may not have heard their music.

Meh. Yeah right. It's well known, it's just everyone who listens to it doesn't particulary want to go around screaming "I LISTEN TO A GERMAN INDUSTRIAL BAND!!!!" Hell, my art teacher listens to Rammstein.

Viva Voce, 'The Heat Can Melt Your Brain' was the (overlooked) best album of 2005.
